Last but not least, will the van roof normally support a 90kg body??
Thanking all in anticipation.

Last time I had to work on the roof,
.. I positioned a thick piece of board along either side ie. along the join of the walls & roof.
.. I then placed a painters plank across the roof resting on the edge boards.
Made a good work platform without putting weight on the van roof
(Of course if you have access to very large step ladders & the room, then you can use them like house painters trestles with the painters plank across the roof of the van).
My process for fitting a vent or similar...
.. Mark out the edge of the vent & mask with tape about 1cn wider all round (to limit the spread of the top caulking bead)
.. Prepare the vent by masking with tape about 1 cm from the edge (again to limit the spread of the final caulking bead)
.. Key in (clean & remove paint roughening up) the area where the caulking is to cover .. all surfaces.
.. place a strip of the caulking stuff that comes in a rolls of around 1cm wide, under the vent where it sits on the roof.
.. press the vent down firmly & cut away any caulking compound that spreads out from underneath it.
.. Using a caulking gun CAREFULLY run a bead of caulking compound over the join.
.. CAREFULLY Smooth out & flatten the bead with water moistened spatulars made from plastic ice cream containers. Discard them as a build up of caulking compound occurs. It seems to work best if you use a steady smooth sweeping motion, stopping at any join that you encounter. Avoid going back over the bead to make it look a bit nicer.
.. As the caulking compound skins, CAREFULLY remove the masking tape. Definately avoid the temptation to improve the look of the bead at this stage.
I find it very useful to practice the WHOLE process using pieces of scrap material until I am happy with my technique.
ps. I purchase both types of caulking stuff from a Caravan Spares place. Might be dearer but you get the right stuff.

Does anyone out there know of an Australian supplier for the subject tape. It is used for sealing van roofs etc and is apparently very effective.
It is available on Ebay but, the postage from the US is pretty expensive.
Also, has anyone had personal experience with the product. I have to replace the roof vent in the shower/toilet and am not keen on using buckets of silastic type products.

A roll of the stuff starts out at $82 then comes postage, GST, credit card fees. Ends up nearly $110.
I really hope its as good as the advertising blurb says it is.
