Karratha roadhouse WA

40 Mile beach (Gonnarheah Pt <sp>) is a good spot.  There is a water tap now about 5km before you get to the camp I believe. (by the airstrip)

Plenty of camp sites for a couple $ a night, much like Cleaverville.

The roadhouse has, as you have found, gone away from allowing overnighters on site.

I have stayed at the Karratha Roadhouse, they allowed camping in the bushland behind where the trucks park, several tracks and some open space there.   But it has been closed for awhile now and was updated in the Camps books, that is why it pays to check online updates for the edition you have, even 7 needs updating by the time you get it since publication. .

The Council made them close their camping down.   You can still get a shower there for a few dollars....

Camp 6 says we can stay at Karratha roadhouse as long as we spend money there - so filled up the ute - and then found that we are no longer allowed to stay there. Ranger has told them we will be fined $100 is caught. Very big area out the back but maybe we get in the way of truckshmm

Next stop south is 40km - BUT found people parked at the Maitland River bridge - both sides - and managed to get a spot there instead - only about 20km south. Not official but has been bulldozed and metal spread so.....biggrin

Bible 7 might have the update in it Vida so I will check it in the morning just for curiosity and add the result to this thread unless someone beats me.

If I am reading it right in Bible 7 it states,

#388, 'Fortescue River Roadhouse' is a CV park with mid $20+ charge.

#389, 'Fortescue River Rest Area' "Rest Area opposite Fortescue River Roadhouse" This is listed as day time only.

I am guessing only that #389 is what you refer to Vida. If it is 'Karratha' Roadhouse, then it is not listed now.

Karratha Shell Roadhouse was #503 in Camps 6 book.

It is about 100km north of Fortescue River Rest area.

Thanks Delta, I have rechecked the bible7 and there is no Karratha Roadhouse listed now. Looks like a no go for sure Vida.

Wow, it's amazing how far 10mm is on a map.

Thats OK - I found a neat spot beside the Maitland River under the Bridge - not a big area but has been buldozed and metalled. Turn right just over the bridge(south side). There is a day camp on the north side as well - long drive down to the river. But I have already told you that confuseconfuseconfuseconfusenodisbeliefyawnfuriousbiggrinwinkno
