UPDATE July 8, 2013

Here I am again after another week in the tropics, I just don't know where the time goes really, it sure goes somewhere that's for sure.

To start with and to get it out the way I finally caught up with my mate Clark on Tuesday and it was good to see him again, he has finally realised that he should have is red undies on  under his cloths and not on the  outside. Yep you guessed it, he is actually 'Superman' the man of steel. Now I am not going to say any more about this movie so you will just have to see it yourself if you are into that sort of thing, I have formed my opinion though.

Now on Wednesday the V8 Super Cars organisers and local Council arranged a drive through Townsville of some of the display hot rods that are involved with this big event and the big trucks etc that move the V8's and all the gear around the Country and actually part of the world these days so I took myself off to have a gander, not bad either, I decided to go to the area where they were setting up in readiness for the start of the parade and that proved to be a great choice. I'm no petrol head but I was like a big kid in a candy store and the camera got a big work out, in fact it's a wonder it didn't go into meltdown, it was great fun looking close up at these massive rigs, they are certainly big beasts. They are quite spectacular and colourful and worth a tad over 3 million dollars each Including all the gear in them I  was told and I tell you that for free.

After that excitement was done and dusted I caught up with 'Nomadic 1', Lynda again and showed her around some of Townsville while chatting away the afternoon. Another good afternoon in good company, thanks Linda and keep enjoying the playground as you do and keep safe.

Later in the week I took myself off for a walk along side the Ross River, risking life and limb due to possible crocodile and mossy attacks. I had been told these buggers can appear without warning but soldier on I did. This was a lovely walk that slowly takes you alongside the already mentioned Ross River, not a bad size river either, plenty of water but not enough for the spillway at the black weir to be in action and I wasn't seen swimming in it or getting very close to it actually. This little black duck wasn't going to be croc bait.

I was going to take a hunting knife with me so if I came across someone else with a knife for protection, I could slide mine out and use that line "That's not a knife, this is a knife" but I didn't think the local sheriff would like that so refrained myself. I spose I could have shot the croc with my camera. During my walk not one croc showed his or her face and the mossies were hiding as well. Come to think of it, I didn't see Ross either. However I was nearly attacked by the Ross River Serpent, a brightly coloured one at that so I shot him quite a few times for mine and others protection. Quite a few shots with my camera really.

Put this walk on your list for sure  if you visit Townsville, "Riverside Walk" .

I think 'Yeoeleven'  John, is winding his way up this way but has slowed down a bit to avoid all the hustle and bustle around Townsville, I think he will be here sometime this week or very soon anyway, it will be good to see him again and his now finished and well run in already, new (to him) Coaster. I last saw John in Frankston, Victoria, earlier this year when he was working on the Coaster.

The weather gods have been extra good to us all in the tropic city of Townsville yet again, mid to high 20's during the day and 10 early in the week over night but mid to high teens later in the week over night and no rain, if the mercury goes any higher I will have to start calling it hot up here. Nice though. As this goes to press at 9.15am it's quite warm already.

OK then that's a wrap for this update.

Oh, so someone told me a porky then (mozzie landing) ? wink (musta been Wombat furious)

Yes, those Jet Jockeys need to eat too, I would imagine for long sorties they would take inflight meals with them of some sort.

Must be hard getting those Porta Potties into the c.o.c.k pit though.

Many moons ago, I was being taught to fly in a Chipmunk, student in front and instructor behind (dual control joysticks etc), they had a sliding pull back c.o.c.k.pit on them, the instructor tapped me on the shoulder and told me to open the c.o.c.k pit and slide it back, and to keep the plane straight and level, I wondered whether he had decided to throw me out, but when I looked back he had stood up and was having a pee over the side, lol !

Seriously though, I think Townsville is a top place and was one of my favourite stays....smile

Good update Doug - we might just see you very shortly as well - heading in that direction at the moment - with Solo Steve as a tag along!!! Currently at Glebe Weir, near Taroom, for a couple of nights, last night was spent at Gil Weir, outside Miles - nice spot, if a little dusty, but had a good fire, and a good time spent with some friends who are heading over to the West Coast.
Dazren - you behave yourself - isn't it "be kind to Wombat" month!!!!!!!

I saw a B-Double go through Childers some time back, it was all black with V 8 Supercars written on the side. The whole think was massive.
It was heading north before Darwin etc.

Haven't seen or been effected by sandflies Peter and believe me, if they were around they would find me.

Some of the mozzies I have seen are big buggers and you would need a big knife to be effective. Now Jungle Jim or Crocodile Dundee wouldn't have a problem as they both have a big knife.

I will talk to the Ross River Serpent for you Dazren and see if he is interested in a deal mate.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone.

Is it true that a mozzie landed at Townsville airport and it was that big that the fuel tankers went out to refuel it as they thought it was a plane? confuse wink

Don't think so Duh, the RAAF is right next door so they would have sent out the top guns before it got into Townsville air space.

Talk about top guns the jets and black hawks have beed flying around a lot since my arrival, very exciting when they go overhead and pretty low too. I must be in a flight path as I am not all that far from the base. They go over early in the morning then come back late afternoon. Fang time more than likely.

Another great read Doug, we are in Mackay for a while as we both have found jobs to put pennies back in the bank .Love the photos of Tsv If Mackay wasn't so great to us we would almost miss it. Good to see you have survived the weather and still there. The weather here is much more to my liking and its a great town with very friendly people .

Thanks for being such a good guide, Doug. I really enjoyed my tour of Townsville.

i'm now at Conway Beach - having a few problems with overcrowding in some campsites and parks. This place is a real ''find' I'll post about it on the solos branch.
