Mullaley, New South Wales

Gday...

Came down from Warialda along the Fossickers Way and yesterday I travelled from Manilla NSW, through Gunnedah, to Coonabarabran and onto Mendooran. It has been quite a while since I went this way and I have to remind all travellers just how great that journey is.

The roads are in very good nick and the scenery is fantastic. Panorama after panorama of rolling paddocks, hills and mountains ... all basking in the winter sun and taking my breath away. Mark it on your map and take a slow journey of appreciation of just one more part of Australia that makes ya glad yer an Aussie.

Between Gunnedah and Coonabarabran is a small town called Mullaley. Make it a stop for one of the home made pies at the general store. They are genuinely made on the premises and the tasty puff pastry is FULL of savoury mince. The best pie I have had in a very long time.

The owners of the store are a friendly mob and their sense of humour is demonstrated by the sign on the veranda as you enter.

Hope you get to travel this small piece of great Straya soon.

Cheers - John

Sounds great John, I think I was that way a few months back or close too anyway. I will have to check the map as my memory is fading sometimes. Like the sign too, makes sense to me.

I'm gonna need one of those double length toilet rolls to write all these places down.

Just kinda... missed ya John. I left Binnaway this morning, through Coonabarabran mid morning, lunch at Narrabri then off to Australian Telescope Array, Wee Waa, now at Burren Junction for the night. Getting closer to Lightning Ridge.

Hi if you are going to Lightning Ridge I can truly recommend the Opal caravan park as I stayed there for 10 days and they have a great set up with the toilets and showers and a very friendly staff, with drive in and out sites and lots of room and free internet and right across the road from the Bore Bath. biggrin

Regards

Don & Glenda
