"Pop up pooper"

Don't laugh, there is actually such a thing. My questions to those who have one, how do you empty it, best way to use it, set it up etc. Do you find the gel/bags to be easily disposed of and how do you do that, when not out in the bush.

I know What you mean and I've seen a woman using one, but I thought.......... YUCK!! Now she has to take it home and wash it somehow, whereas my trusty "nappy sacks" bought from a supermarket very cheaply (used for putting dirty disposable nappies in and around the same size as a small freezer bag) works just fine! It even comes with built-in ties and deodorant biggrin

Lots of people who live in their campervan in the US use plastic bags with some sawdust and put in the garbage bins. Boy if I sat on that I would need a crane to get me up. I have seen one.

I read somewhere that it's illegal to be seen dangling from a crane with your pants down around your ankles.

I'd be interested in whether they are OK too Marge, not all of us have ensuites in our van. My wife will not free camp unless there is a toilet, so something 'more acceptable' would be great.
Also could QueenKombi expand a bit on the nappy bags.

I don't have an ensuite van, but I wouldn't be without my portaloo. A whole lot less messy than any alternatives, as far as I'm concerned.

I see by your avatar that you have an Avan...if it's not possible to put a portaloo in there, use one of those popup tents for it and a shower. I have one, but have only had to use it once.

Good one Gary. You're right; the idea of Homer or myself dangling froma crane is mind boggling to say the least. I'm still giggling. Perhaps we should be looking at a high rise model!

G'Day Beth, thanks for the reply - you tow a portaloo behind you ....I GOOGLED 'portaloos' and they are the ones at big events but surely you don't mean one of those. A portapotti?

I'm going to buy a portapotta to use in an ensuite tent as you suggest.

I will stick to my Portaloo too Beth. At least you know its strong enough to sit on without collapsing and easy enough to empty at a dump point. Even in my little van Myrtle I have plenty of room for it. It also makes an extra see if need be.

That's what I always call mine too, a portaloo. Didn't think about towing it.

I have a funny story about a portaloo..the one you tow. There was one set up at a big family reunion years ago, and my aunty who passed away last month, hooked it to the car while I was in it, and started to drive off!

I still get ribbed about that. biggrin

We had a "Luggable Loo" the original many years ago B4 Porti Potties. Great unit with removable seat & lid. The 20 litre green bucket made a great stool. (no pun intended), step ladder & always lined with a black garbo bag for correct disposal. Buried 150 metres away from sites & deep.

You mean "good luck" trying to explain what I meant hmm

I swear I must be slightly dyslexic or something. I read that as a "Pooper-Scooper" which is a device on the end of a handle used to pick up dog droppings!

Now I have a picture in my head of someone putting a nappy-sack over a tin can and trying to squat over it blankstare

Thanks for clearing that up. Back a few years in a "Popular Mechanics" magazine I saw an advert for a new invention - the "Super Dooper Pooper Scooper"....I thought at the time it would only be the Yanks that would invent such a device and give it a name like that.

The Luggable Loo are available still but the ones I've seen are called Thunder Down Under I think. I have one. I also have the folding seat one and a porta potti. Nothing like a collection.

For the first year that I lived on my property I only had one of the chair style ones as per Beth's photos. Just stand it over a hole and all good. And watching the birds and wallabies while meditating beats reading a boring magazine in a tiny room :)

I'd prefer this, as it would handle a man of my size a bit better. I have seen the Luggable Loo at BCF.

I'm looking for an alternative to the porta potti, had one when I had the family, and hated it with a passion.

KombiQueens nappy sack has given me an idea, but an American friend uses bio degradable bin liners with sawdust or lime(?) but disposing of it could be an issue, as when I lived in Ashfield NSW many many moons ago, there was an issue with the council and people disposing of nappies in the council bins, but I can't remember what the alternative was.
