Hi, I have a 2005 LC 100 series 4.2 turbo diesel with 5 speed auto transmission 120,000km and wondering if the transmission should have a fluid change. Apparently Toyota dont specify a service as its a sealed box with no dip stick however I'm told that it is a must if you intend to tow caravans etc. Any thoughts?, thanks RR
I have queried this a few times with various service agents and have ended up doing the usual and done a bit of research as I have a 200 series, same concern, just a different model.
The answers that I have gleaned is;
If the vehicle is used for normal operation, no towing, now off road driving, no low range no nothing else (which rather defeats the object of having the damn thing) then, your pretty okay and don't need to worry too much about it.
However,
If you do any of the above, it should be at around 80-100,000 k's. However my take on this is, when I start noticing that the old girl is a bit slow to engage reverse (foot down nothing happens) and the shift pattern changes, then I'll have a look.
Hi Roadrunner, we too run the same set of wheels. I have my cruiser serviced by two young guys who used to work for Toyota before going out on their own. They told me that if you are towing a load like a caravan or so it's good to change the auto box oil every 100k. For them they have worked out what needs doing and when based on their experience. It may change a bit depenant upon how often you are pulling the van or similar. For me as I put it to them, I would rather over do it than the other way. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your comments guys, I may start with talking to Toyota first to also get their view on this. Would anyone out there know of a reliable and experienced Toyota mechanic based in Adelaide that can service 100 series trans?. Thanks and regards Eddy
