Differentials!!

I loved the post about what is the purpose of a gearbox, it's so wonderful how people's imagination works and how we all see things in different ways, especially being technically minded
(sometimes technical bod's look too deep for an answer.......... SOL!! You'd agree with that eh??)

SO, here's another question for you, but we need to keep it simple, so there are some rules.....................

In 12 (TWELVE) words or less..................

What is the purpose of a differential?? (axle set up)

No prizes, just interested to see what you, or the internet come up with.

Mark

Rather than try to explain things in a few words, there is a good site "How stuff works." here is their bit on differentials. There is a few pages of reading that will give you a good grasp of things. The site will tell you how most things in a car works.

I think a differential is like a rear seat passenger, it sits at the back and whines

My older bro once told me that on older used cars they're for putting banana skins in.

To transmit torque to axles and rotate them at different speeds simultaneously.
