We stopped at a little town on the Eyre Hwy called Kimba. As we came into the town it was obvious that this town cared about the people who live in it. You only needed to look around and talk to the locals to find out their heart is in keeping this town a vibrant one. What seems to make this town work is the council who works with such groups as the local Apex group, the business and the population as a whole to seek their opinions, needs and working with them to bring about the result. It might seem like I am getting a bit over the top about this town but when I see something like this in action it needs to be shared. The Apex park has great amenities with the sports ground also having space to stay with a dump site. So if you are traveling the Eyre Hwy don't just drive past Kimba, pop in a see for yourself.
Travel safe
Brian and Cheryl

Hi briche, checked Kimba out on Google, and Yep if one was wandering around the area, it looks like a great place to wind down and rest awhile. small but peaceful ???
Had to buy a rim for my van there (cracked a rim) and I was pleasantly surprised by the price. It was as cheap as if I had been in a major city. Only charged $10 to swap the tyre over. cheers blaze
Hi Brian and Cheryl Kimba is a great little place, the caravan park there has the best hot showers in Australia!! Also my mum grew up there, on a farm near from town.. I have spent many holidays there... oh also my Uncle works at the Apex park, glad you enjoyed your stay there...
Kimba is one of those places where they do welcome visitors. Not just a marketing tool to woo the traveller.
Have stayed there many times,at both the free camp and the caravan park. The c/ van park is a beaut park and for $20 powered site it is well worth it.
The free camp is also a beaut spot to pull into ,being so close to town, this is one of the very few free camps where I unhitch and go for a look see around the area.
Just be aware that the two road houses close around 7/8ish ( when we have been there ) so if planning on travelling through the night ,the next servo open is located 350ks to the west at Ceduna and 150k to the east of Port Augusta.
There is also a nice shaded spot called The Gums with BBQ .
