Reversing camera versus sensors

Hi Nelly, and welcome to the forum.  I only have reversing sensors which I find ok for my purposes, can't comment on reversing camera's etc.

If you click on the Search word at the top on the dark blue line, and then type in Reversing Sensors quite a lot of info is there, also do another search on Reversing Camera's and that will be similar.

For any newer members, always best to do a search first as a lot of good info is hidden away and may answer your questions, however a new thread like yours is also good as over time new products have come out which could be better.....smile

Thank you for this wonderful site and everything and everyone that makes it what it is.  I have heard that reversing cameras are quite hard to get used to - comments like you think that you have a couple of feet to go and get out to look and it is a lot closer than you think.  I was just wondering what your thoughts are on either of these two components.  I am sort of swayed towards sensors but I could be wrong (believe me not the first time!!!)  Also what is cost approx. of either.  I know there would be quite a range in each but just an idea would be good.  Thankyou.     smile

I had reversing cameras installed on the car and caravan the other week. Only needed on the car to hitch the caravan. I'll let you know how the caravan camera works if it ever stops raining here.  bleh.gif

I'm with you spalas & Briche

Reversing is okay on your good side, but on the blind side can be a bit awkward no

So when we are on the blind side the wife stands at the back of the area we are going to park in and just say's "left, or right" according to which way she wants the back end of the van to go, I then do the bit at the front and hey presto we're in, a doddle

There has to be a great deal of trust in what the guide is telling you confuse and they have too have to understand that all the driver needs to know is whether the back of van goes to the left of the right.

We have had some pretty tricky manouvers over the last couple of years and the UHF is without doubt a marriage saver, and onlookers are sometimes in awe of how easy it can be.

Trouble with camera's is they still leave blind spots and you are back to square one.

Hope this helps.

Mark

The reversing camera is a great help on the road as you can see vehicles behind the caravan which are out of sight of your mirrors. Not a lot of help when reversing though.

I have a camera on the car wired to the reversing lights and one on the van  when driving it's wired to the parking lights as I normally drive with the lights on

I use the same monitor up front just got a second wireless camera,  works well in the backyard haven't tried it on the open road yet..  My Tug came with senors fitted  but found they started beeping when the van was hooked or backing into tight spots became a pain so pulled the fuse and rely on the cameras

I'm told I switch the monitor on the dash from camera 1 for car.. works in reverse only... to camera 2 for caravan... works when little lights (what are they called?) and driving lights are on. They didn't mention high beam, probably works on them also.

I was really hoping it would assist me in caravan reversing but it sounds like thats a no...but as I said, haven't tried it yet. Could be lots of practice coming up.

I have a reversing camera on the way - not installed yet - but it clips onto the interior rear view mirror and gives you a view of what's directly behind, and doesn't need reverse gear to operate. You can use it at cruising speed. I also have a pair of UHF hand held radios on the way, and am glad to have read how cool they are in tight parking situations. However, I reversed my rig - ute with slide-on - into the drive for the first time today. Bit tricky with only the side mirrors but I accomplished it without too much trouble. In fact, come to think of it, I deserve a gold star!

Welcome from us Nelly. We still use hand signals for reversing. All those above have given you some good advice.
