Another truly 'blonde' question about water in the van!!

Make sure that your shower head is a water saving type.

(If you screw the hand piece off its metal joiner you'll see a colored restricting valve .. a piece of plastic ... in the pipe).

Our old Jayco came with a normal shower head & SWMBO was always running out of hot water.  I replaced the shower head at Cobar on one trip & it's been great ever since.

More useless info ... I attended the closing down sale of that Cobar hardware store on a more recent trip.

Our Jayco has two tanks joined with a pipe & no isolating tap.

Hi Buffy, no question is ever a dumb question, just wondering did you not get books and instructions on how to use operate ( things ) with your van. Some times these instructions can help one understand the workings of STUFF, but some times it also can help confuse me more.

I am always getting my books out to check stuff out regarding one thing or another. And on a few occasions the instructions a wrote like I am reading double Dutch.

Regards Herbie.

Ok...I am a tad blonde but...

Figured out how to fill the water tanks...thanks everyone!!biggrin

Ran out of water during the shower today!!!no I only filled it yesterday!! Even the old fella knows not to stand in the shower forever and waste water!!!

I went to fill the tanks and one of them appears to be full...poked hose in and turned it on and instantly overflowing so put hose in other hole and that one filled up. So, is there a tap that I need to turn on under the van somewhere to make sure we use both tanks cos it appears to me that we are only emptying one tank before we run out of water.

I guess I should get down on my arthritic knees and look under the van!! lol

Oh the van is a Jayco Starcraft. Any suggestions gratefully received and hopefully the blonde moments of caravanning will get less!!!confuse

If the van has 2 pumps, one will be for the shower and the other for drinking water.
But if only one pump is fitted the tanks will be joined together with a 12mm hose. this hose may have an isolating valve fitted that can be closed to islolate one tank, or open to allow water to be drawn from both tanks.
If that's the case you'll need to get down on or arthitic knees.
Cheers, ozjohn.

PS> There may also be a valve even in the case of having two pumps fitted.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago when I first got my van and Billeeee showed me that by pushing the hose deep into the tank and turning it on may fix it.

I had an airblock and by pushing the hose fixed it.

Cheers

The water tends to run back out of the tanks initially when filling unless there is some way for the air in the tank to escape. My Jayco has a little vent with mesh over it near the filling hole for this but I have to put the hose with fitting on the end in to the hole to make a reasonably airtight seal then the air is forced out the vent.
Otherwise you turn the outside tap or kitchen tap on to allow the air to escape (- turn the pump off ).
I spent a lot of time for the first few months thinking my tanks were full and wondering why I was running out of water!!!! and I am grey not blonde :)

The first time this happened to us was when we ran out of water after filling up.

However like Brett says. We had an air block and because it was spraying back the water I thought it was full.

Learnt the lesson which has now elimated any such problem.
