We are going to visit Nimbin in the morning, hope we are not disappointed after all this time waiting. Talk about are we there yet! Will be in for a cold night tonight as we are camped up on the top of the escarpment, thank goodness for diesel heaters.
oh nimbin hey i lived there for twelve months five klms from town at blue knob mountain some interesting days there you will either like it or love it the countryside itself is amazing, but the town has poorly gotten very sad last time i was there even i didnt want to stay too long in town, be aware they will confront you with a drug sale no matter what your age but just be polite and say no thank you , nothing to be afraid of.
when i was living there almost thirty years ago i was walking past the hotel and here was this young lad hanging out the window would of been only at least 16 said hey lady you wanna buy some pot, i laughed and said mate i live here and he just grinned.
but last time i visited it had gotten very sad loud horrible looking people not as many hippies as such just dead beats but the town is amazing to photo or video and the arts are amazing ,very talented people too.
enjoy your trip it will be interesting to hear if you enjoyed it or not,as i said dont be afraid some older people are afraid but they are harmless people and just normal human beings like you and me ,although some are lost souls
who me lol i wish i was 25 again """" nothing wrong with a bit of green stuff when needed i just wouldnt touch anything from nimbin not these days goodness knows whats being handed to you nowadays .
in fact at the time of living in nimbin believe it or not i didnt smoke the green stuff at all weird hey ,i hated the town itself ,i would go in to get milk and whatever and out of there the people were dirty and most of them no hopers ,i used to go into the post office to get our mail and i always spoke with an elderly gentlemen that worked there at the time and i one day said to him how do you put up with it ,the people i mean truly it drives me nuts he said love its very sad can you imagine what nimbin was like before all these people took over
i said i envisage that every day that i come to town , as the farms and countryside were just so beautiful.
We enjoyed Nimbin,but we were only there for two days.Guess one can not really gauge a place in two days.
The country side is stunning.We never got offered any hooch while we were wondering around the place, but we did notice some strange transactions going on and it wasn't from the ATM outside the local bank.Interesting to note also regarding the show grounds getting closed to camping, Was reading the local mayors report regarding it,and he went on to say the reason it had to close was that people staying there were helping them self to free power by plugging into the power and the town just could not afford to prop these type up. But he did not mention that one of the instigators of the closure owns one of the parks an is on the some committee (think it may have been the tourism) The report also read where they wanted all free camping within the Bogan Shire to stop supporting /providing free services that do not benefit the shire.It also mentioned that what they had observed the g/ns do not spend much money in the town ,instead bigger towns were where they were spending the $$.
Enjoy Nimbin Bob and Rhonda -it is a different town for sure. The "deadbeats" are just characters, dropped out of a society that doesn't know how to cope with them. The likes of Smoulderer - been there many years, gets around in a motorised wheely now, has cerebal palsy I think, but is able to live a normal life in Nimbin with no medication, just a natural herbal one!!! A must to visit is the Hemp Embassy, as well as the museum. Some of the shops are wonderful -"didyabringyabongalong" - great food and coffee in town as well. Love it!! Was approached by a very elegan woman one time there, who offered me "cookies"!! The ATM apparently is one of the most used in Australia - a lot of money moves through that town. And have no problem with the green stuff - alwas good quality!

Spent a few hours in town, just looking. Weather a bit off, overcast and showery, but not cold. Visited the museum and candle factory and went in all the shops. We were not approached or offered any goods, bit disappointed really. Could of spent another hour or two just sitting and observing but Rhonda was ready for her first so had to get moving.
have to say that the road in and parking was not to friendly for motor homes or caravans.
