Help with getting water into van

I know this is a silly question but help, please! :)

we have jayco Starcraft and it came with water tanks full! Time to fill them....the are two holes and a hose nozzle thingie in middle of the holes. I assume we click the  water hose onto the hose nozzle and turn tap on and we have water coming in when we turn a tap on in the van? My question is...does this fill the tanks too? Or do we need to put hose into the holes and fill tanks that way?

Yes I am blonde!confuse

and that cold dribble of a shower didn't impress me much!!no

Hi Buffy, I noticed that 44 second instruction video says to "put the hose into the holes to fill the tanks".

It doesn't show it done, for good reason!  The blowback is bad.

My friend has this system on his Starcraft (Jayco) and has solved it by making a fitting that sealed around the hose where it goes into the hole to stop water being forced out of the filler. This forces the air in the tank to exit via the vent rather than the easier way - via the filler hole.

If you need more info let me know.

Cheers Neil

And don't forget the good old watering can with sprinkler attachment removed to form a spout when there's no hose available, or the tap is too far away. I think it was Vic who taught me that one. I bought an olive Hortico watering can the other day at Bunnings with the sprinkler thingy already detached and housed in a recess behind the handle.

Yep the blowback is bad...which is why I questioned if I was doing it right!

got a hose without the hose clip on bit at the end and poked it about 5 inches into the hole and that worked.

so, does that mean if I click onto the hose clip on thing and turn hose on at the wall of house it works like a hose with the hand held nozzle that you can turn on and off yourself once tap is on at the wall? ( hope that makes as much sense to you as it does to me!!). Hence, I won't be draining water tanks and will be using water from hose/house?

Twenty answers may just give me clarity!yawn Or not! confuse Lol

That is correct.  With the hose connected to the click on fitting, leave the house wall  tap turned on and you can use the pressure sink tap in the van and also shower if you have one.

This is the way you will connect to water in a caravan park to use their water.

Cheers Neil

If you want to use a watering can to fill with, for some reason, we found the best way was to fix a piece of hose to the end of the spout and push that down the hole.

We have a 2008 Sterling with the water connections alongside the water heater vent near the front of the van. The breather pipes have to travel almost from the rear of the van. Due to over filling on my part water stayed in the the breathers and, because of the length and narrow diameter of pipe there was not enough pressure to allow the water to clear the breathers and fill the tanks. Solution was to cut the breathers to allow 6 inches or so to hang down near the tanks. You can easily detect when they overflow. This worked for me. Some Jayco models were not well designed in this area.

I have posted this before, cant find it now so here it is again.

Quick, simple, done in minutes, no mess.

A 500mm  length of hose that will fit into the small hole in the filler neck, insert hose with a hose click on connector fitted, (just push hose over connector)

Push hose all the way into filler neck so the connector rests against the base of filler.

To fill, simply enter hose end with a clip end into filler hole & push onto connector untill it clicks, turn tap & fill.

To remove withdraw hose & connector just far enough to release the clipon, push joiner & hose back into filler ready for next time.
