Kindness

I just want to tell you of an act of kindness recently shown to me. My wife and I were on our way to Lake Monduran Qld and stopped at Gin Gin to fuel up when I noticed that one of the van tyres looked very flat.

I pulled over to the air station and noticed whilst pumping air that the valve stem was perished. Oh well time to change the tyre (luckily we were in the service station and not on the side of the road) I was just getting the jack from the van boot when this young tattooed guy in a blue singlet said "Move over pop I'll change it for you". Which he did and a lot faster than I could. He would not accept anything for his troubles and was on his way as quick as he came.

So thank you to that young truckie for your assistance and to show that not all truckies dislike caravanners.

Bob

Nice story to read. Double whammy as you would have felt good as the recipient of the kindness & the young chap would have also felt good because he 'done good'

I had a similar incident a few years back on my way via the back way from Litchfield to Darwin.
I had pulled over with a flat rear tire and within minutes a young local pulled up behind me and changed it for me..
was a real pleasant surprise.

Great story Bob, I had a long haired tattooed truckie help me out on the Nullabor too once, you can't go on appearances, he wouldn't take nothing for his help either!!  Salt of the earth ! smile

Thanks for posting this story Bob. All too often we read of the opposite behaviour and this is a refreshing change.

And now's your chance to do something to 'pay forward'. It is so true that there's a double blessing when this is done. You felt good and so did he.

Last week whilst travelling from Lightning Ridge to St.George (Qld) I passed over a dead kangaroo and felt a bump, when I arrived at St.George Caravan Park i noticed the elbows and last foot or so of both sullage outlets missing and the pipes damaged. The manager of the park gave me the name of a plumber (Scott's Plumbing) to ring, he said bring it around at 10 am in the morning and I will see what I can do, he got under the van had a look and went out the back of his shed looking for the correct size of pipes and fittings and proceeded to fix it, I said do you want me to come back in a couple of hours, he said "No, I will do it while you wait". He got under, cut the pipes to fit, got out his gas burner and glue and presto, half an hour later allfinished.

I was expecting to pay anything up to $200 as it was an emergency job and he was the boss and had other things to do, not to mention I was a 'blow in' that he probably would never see again, when I went to pay him he said " Just make it $30 mate", I nearly fell over with surprise and amazement and said "that' s not enough"' I gave him $50 and told him to have a beer on me and both of us were very happy with the outcome.

A top bloke and a real country gentleman...thanks again Scotty!!!

Just goes to prove you can't judge a person just because they have tattoos :)
