Helllo Bill12, GeeÂ i hope this bridge comes sooner than latter.From just been in Weipa ,it sure as hell is a hot topic up that way.But the locals laugh about the bridge crossing and recon everyone will probably still have to pay to cross it,as the council is so broke. The price at the moment to use the barge is a single vehicle return $129 up from $88.Tour bus $160 .Truck $185 return. NPA residents have to pay $50 one way.Locals also recon the NPA council and traditionak owners treated the Ferry charge as a cash cow.From last May the price has been a 50% hike. But people that tried to cross it some time back after a truck went over the side of the barge got stuck and it cost $3000 per vehicle to be towed out of the croc infested waters....And to cross the Murray on any of the barges it is free ,just makes one wonder why one state is different from the next in this regard.....We are heading south at Coen pub at the moment .

Fed minister Albanise said $25 million for that and road improvements. I wonder if the next govt will go ahead with it?Time will tell.Bill

It costs me $120 to go 8 klms on the loca lbarge , return. so why does it cost so much to go 400m across the Jardine? Surely there some law against riping off the touring public and locals! Like I said- seeing is believing. Bill

The ferry price includes unlimited camping in the Aboriginal lands of the Cape.

We spent 3 weeks there in 2009.
I reckon $88 was a pretty good deal.

There will be a camping fee after the bridge goes in, becha....

I couldn't believe it when I found out they'd built a bridge over the Wenlock !!! That was quite a few years after I'd left the Cape. When this one goes up, going to the Tip will be just like driving up Queen St.

When I was up there, they were lucky to get about 5,000 "terrorists" a year .

It's certainly not a "big deal" to do the Cape these days.

Hi Sheba, yep you are right in using the word Terrorist,they all still refer to us us just that. Mainly due to the fact of the rubbish that is left behind by us the travelling public.Guess you cannot blame them,when they have the burden of cleaning the mess up after the tourist season is over. Can not speak for other areas up that way,but Weipa doesn't really need to survive on tourists as Rio Tinto is the mining there,so it really is just that a mining town.
