Hitting the Road

The time has finally arrived. The Dragon and I hit the road on Wednesday morning for an extended drive to where ever the road takes us. We intend to be on the road for 12 to 18 months.

All is in readiness (at least I think it is) for the trip we have planned for a long time. Our housesitter arrived from Tassie on Saturday and is set to take up duties from Wednesday. Here's hoping Jo and her husband Danny enjoy Western Australia while we trip around the rest of it.

There is no plan, we decide each morning where to head that day. If we cannot decide, we prop and read a book and have another go at a decision the next day.

We have set up a blog and intend to post to it as often as we can. If anyone is interested the URL is:  petch93.aussieblogs.com.au

Maybe, just maybe, we might see you out there.

Peter

Good on you guys - you will enjoy it so much. That is how we travel, decide when we get up where we are going, and if we can't decide, stay put, and try again the next day! Simple really! Will check out your blog - try putting the title in your "signature" bit on the profile page - just go to "signature" put your blog name and your own name there - then it is on every time you post - keep on posting on here though, some people don't read blogs.

Enjoy yourselves!!

Hi to you all, how much do my husband and I envy you guys out there you are doing what we would love to do.  We spent 3 mths travelling around your fantastic country and fitting it in with staying with our son in W Aus, needless to say 3 mths was not enough, not only because we did not even see all of WA but the time was too short as we enjoyed our time there so much.  We would love to spend our time out there as you guys do but unfortunately we cannot do it officially.  We have the means to come over and buy our rig and pay for our time, but it would be nice to be able to work paid or unpaid (somewhere to stay ) whilst we travelled.  What do you think guys, should we be able to come over there for 12mths or so like the younsters do as I am sure we are more reliable and committed than they can be at times, if we were younger we would come over for good, as we still have loads of life left in us yet!!!!

Enjoy yourselves in your fantastic country and think of us back here in the UK DREAMING - we really do envy you all.

We travel and work.
There are many places that you could "lend a hand" for a site and a meal, but obviously working officially is a "no-no" because of the visa type and if you were to get caught, well you'd stuff up any possibility of a visit again.  As I say, low key. there is a lot that can be done.  We worked in a hotel/motel where a Dutch couple who were cycling on pushbikes around Oz worked for 3 months that I know of.  Recently we have worked with another couple from Germany who are only visitors.  As I say, it's there, it's just a matter of discreet activity.  But as I said before, IF you or the business were to get caught the ramifications would seal your possible future trips.

Way to go Peter.....Steve and I can't wait to do exactly what you are doing. In the research phase now comparing vans and tow vehicles and reading forums to gain as much info as we can.  Hope to hit the road in Feb. Travel safe.
