Unfortunately my 4WD won't fit thru the garage doors with the kayaks on top.
I use ropes thru the scupper holes to lift the yaks in position & then fit ratchet straps around the outside of the hull to take the weight & hold them on their side horizontally against the wall.
I always remove a couple of hatch covers to let the hull drain whilst in storage.
As the floor joists & stringers are exposed in my garage I can use them to take the weight.
I have located the kayaks on the side wall where I park the small Getz, so there is ample space for one on top of the other. It's so easy to do that I didn't bother to fit pulleys. I'm careful to not let the rope burn the polyethylene as I raise or lower them.

Well, ended up getting a Rhino Rack'n'Roll loader for the kayak. Have managed to get the kayak on top of car without damaging outselves Now, where and how do you store it (the kayak) at home? DH thought of making a pulley above the car in the garage. I had a quicker idea - just propping it up in a corner in his shed. BTW - he read my previous e-mail and thought I was refering to him as a 'd*ckhead when I wrote 'DH'... It does mean 'dearheart' or 'dear husband'... doesn't it?....... Thanks, Jay-Jay
that one is easy - we just drive in and out of the garage and either lift or drop from sling from the roof of the garage on pulley system. We have 2 kayaks both stored this way. Just be careful of the height of the garage entry in case the combined height of the car and craft may not fit in - we had this issue with one of our vehicles. One person can operate the pulley without effort.
Congratulations on a good purchase with the rack'n'rolls!
Cheers

We also have the rack and roll system for putting the kayaks on the roof of the Prado and also a pulley system for storing ceiling level of the garage. We also have large hooks on the side wall for storing both sets of wheels....we have a quiet little cove at the bottom of our street, its ideal for putting the wheels on the kayaks and taking them for a walk to the end of the street and spending a quiet afternoon paddling around the bay, so tranquil! cheers Capricorn
