Are you please able to give us newbies an answer (sort of urgent). Tomorrow (monday 10/6) We are looking to purchase a van with Qld rego and we live in NSW. Do we have to change rego straight away or is there anything specific we need to do for transfer to take place? Thank you for your help
also we would appreciate feedback on a Coromal Apollo 425 .... Good bad or otherwise.
My info is that you cant transfer Need to cancel existing rego and perhaps get a refund-pro rata then take out new rego in NSW Pretty sure that's the way it works as I bought in Vic and re registered in SA
There is a period of grace there is nothing in the rules stopping you having a vehicle rego in Qld and living NSW for a short time and transferring within say 3 months If you have someone's address in QLD leave it rego there and change it to their address it's a lot cheaper

First make sure the rego in Qld is changed to your name.
We recently moved to NSW from interstate and went through the procedure to change rego's on 2 vehicles., a caravan and a trailer. You will have to get a "Blue slip" ie roadworthy for it, and present it with the number plate and your money at the Motor Registry dept. Not cheap here, but best to be legal. Our 15foot van cost $470 to register. Then you send the Qld Motor rego people the receipt for the plates and they send a refund if any is due. As far as we remember you have 3 months to do this.
Best to call the Rego dept in both states for proper advice.
I have been advised that when we get back to NSW,early next year that we have to take the plates off and then get it registered in NSW,BUT I suggest that you have a look at the RTA or RMS web site and get all the info from there.I had a 16' NSW registered van BUT traded it in on a 19' one and its Qld registered.I am in NT at present and will keep it that way until we get back to Peak Hill NSW....check out the Roads & Maritime Service web site and get the correct info from there
