Hi, welcome to the forum, I can't help with Tv or almost anything else, I like you am fairly new and trying to learn. But there are some very clever people here, if they ever started charging for advice the give they could fund every caravan park in OZ.

I am sure someone will have the info you need but you may need to a little more specific on your needs.

Thanks for your reply. Yes sorry for being so vague. We should have introduced ourselves. We are purchasing a 17' Coromal 505 which we are picking up this weekend. Very excited about this new chapter in our lives. We don't require anything fancy at this stage just plan on fitting the odd weekend away in-between working and a longer 3 week hol later in the year then around Oz maybe next year. So a small TV easy to set up antenna is what we require at this stage I think. Appreciate any feedback from wise and worldly forum members

I did not mean to be smart with my response , but one thing I have learnt here, even trying to ask a question can be hard when you don't realise how Much you really don't know...... Isn't a tv, just a tv..... If only it was soooo easy.

Ours had a Winegard too, its easy to operate, no problems. No signal in some places means we don't watch telly, and that's ok.
If its really important not to miss TV you might do some research into Sat systems.

Yo Phil for your first trip keep the dollars down. Once you get to a park for the night you will be amazed at the set ups.Then comes reception ! .I was in Broken Hill last week and fair dinkum half the vanners faced 1 way and the other faced the opposite way ! Me ,Iwalked over to a highpoint and looked for the highest point that I could see and figured that it may contain a mast of some sorts ,and so far so good.Now.. since that trip a mate put me on to an app site called Antenna Mate . Bingo points to the site best suited anywhere in OZ. Having said that if you go away for a short test ,take a bit of cable and a coat hanger and get a bit of insight first . Cheers Westy

One thing I found away from city area's was you need a good power booster to assist the antenna. I use a "Happy Wanderer" brand made in Adelaide which is a simple plastic pipe antenna with good results most times. Regards RR

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We used a wind up Wynguard in our travels. It is convenient as you can wind it up and turn it from within your van. We found it reliable with reception in most places that reception would be expected.

One problem with our Wynguard was, from memory, it had vertical polarisation which covers most places in Australia but some towns have  horizontal polarisation so for this you can buy an attachment that you fit to the the antenna.

What I am saying comes from our traveling experiences  over 2 years ago so I am not sure it is still applicable as many towns then still did not have digital transmission so I hope someone in the know could correct anything that I have stated that may be now incorrect.

When we were traveling we had a website to look at which had all the locations of the television towers in Australia so we just checked the site for each place we stopped to find out which direction to point our aerial. Unluckily the web site is now closed down.. If you have a GPS in your car there is a 'poi' application you can download onto your GPS which would help:  custom.gps-data-team.com/australia/television_antenna_towers/TV_Towers_Aust.html
