Caravan Parks

01.jpgWe have been away for a month and stayed all ways in  caravan parks . Some parks we stopped   were disappointing ,no hot showers and muddy sites and some were in top condition. The prices ranged from $24 to $37 a night. 02.jpg

The one  top right was $24 hot water, and the one on top with no hot water and muddy side was $ 30.

Go figure that out, both  inland NSW

Cheers Hans

I guess they couldn't help the mud if it had been raining. The farmers out west needed the rain.

We have been to quite a few CP here in SA, lovely grassed areas for the vans. We have been to some in Broken Hill and Mildura, again great CPs. Then we have been to NSW and VIC and it rates as good and bad. There is one CP my husband stayed at near Port Augusta...this was a cabin, it stank, it was infested with ****roaches and mice. It was filthy inside....as soon as I saw it I convinced him to get out. This was for work, I got him into a rented unit. That CP was a cess pit.

Some months back, We booked and paid by phone for one between Grafton and Glen Innes to spend a couple of days paddling the Mann River And seeing the National Park camps in the area. We arrived and promptly went to the cabin .. Looked around ... Promptly requested our money back! The bathroom drain was a  hole in the floor open to bugs and no proper drainage. The windows and tracks were dirty and full of dead insects and the screens needed some repair. . the beds smelt and the floor needed a good wash and disinfect.  we discussed this with the management, they told us there had not been enough time to clean ... 2pm is checK in....... This was about 4pm.

we have stayed in some crappy places in our day, but this one is now top of the list, And we never spent a night there. It surprised me because i had some good reports about it ... I have since been told the property had either been sold or changed management Which could have been the explanation! The camping area looked to be in good condition and well maintained, however. They do make good coffee and hamburgers, so this does redeem them ... a bit!

oh, they did agree to refund our money in full.

Now thats a worry!!! .... We had them Earlier in the day on our way to the river to checkout a campsite a few klms further along the highway - that at least was worth the visit!

Do CPs generally allow you to inspect a site before paying, or is it cash up front?

We've seen people walking through a caravan park to have a look, a couple of time have been questioned... "are the amenities clean?" etc. Have wandered thru parks ourselves. Not sure if this is officially allowed but it happens often.

After being caught out in a hell hole that was recommended to us in Darwin we try to look into Parks now unless we can see they are clean and well cared for. Some of the ones out bush though are the best and nothing flashy.

We rarely book ahead but Darwin being peak we did so were stuck for one week until we were lucky to get into another.

I personally prefer smaller less formal places to stay. Too much tizz means too many people and not our thing.

Go the bush parks.biggrin

Planning is not our thing either. Here today and gone whenever wherever.

To inspect the CP sounds very good but it is not practical . When you turn up in a town ,say 3 o clock and the place got 4 parks , how long dose it take you to look at them? Then a lot of CPs don't have  enough space to park your van ,so you have to park on the street. You have to be lucky to get a place there. Also  the hot water in the morning ,how do you check that ?

I think the best way is to plan your trip before you take off. I know how many KM I can travel in a day ,so I know where I am at the end of the day. Maybe it pays to ask here on the forum for some good places to stay, or Badger got new informations on parks. One park we stayed in was in Eden, it was spotless ,maybe we got spoiled there. I don't know if I can mention the name ,but it is the place where Adam & Eve stayed.smile

Cheers Hans
