We had it all planned, house goes on the marlet (agent says average 2-3 months to sell, as its winter you know) that takes us to about september, 60 day settlement ...about November, couple of months to find a MH once we have the money, already to leave at the end of Jan.
No !!!
The house went on the market last week and is now SOLD.
Great news but just a little quicker than we planned.
We still can't leave until the end of Jan so a little rethinking is required. What did the great John Lennon say, "Life is what happens while your busy making other plans."
Its all very exciting but also getting scary, we have a housefull to sell, or store, or give away, or or or.......
Anyway come early Feb it will all be a another great adventure to laugh about.
If you know of anybody who is, or might be selling a decent MH over the next few months please let us know, .
Thanks again for your indulgence, its great to have someone to vent with that has some idea of what we are going through.

Getting rid of stuff you have had for years can be fun, or it can be difficult. It seemed that nobody wanted some of what we thought was good stuff, even at garage-sale prices, gave it away, and had to take some stuff to the tip. And we didn't even sell up entirely, just moved house!
Best wishes with all the sorting/packing/selling/dumping and cleaning ahead!
Wow! Your house certainly sold quickly (although I always say, 'It's not sold til the money's in the bank!") . Yes, you will have some re-thinking to do. Hope it all goes well. Very exciting.
I'm slowly going through the process of selling stuff in anticipation of hitting the road, and finding that no one wants it hehe. I'm looking forward to the day when everything I own is in the motorhome. I've moved house many times in my life, and must've spent a fortune on removalists. So this time I'll be the removalist, and the motorhome will be the removal van, moving from one camp to the next. No more packing and unpacking. no more garage sales. no more piles of junk in the spare room and garage. What a wonderful way to spend the rest of my life!
That's a great thought and plan Gary, ours is almost identical , planning is one thing, but you won't believe how scary it is when it's actually happening, all of a sudden there are soooo many things out of your control. But if it wasn't fun we wouldn't do it.

Having that scary moment as well!! Have managed to sell most of my possessions to a woman at work. Her nephew is moving over to Oz from Ireland and needs a house full of furniture!! Think the only thing I have left is an office desk!! Oh...and all those drawers full of clutter and rubbish that you save for the day you may need it!! Think they will end up in the bin!!! Only 2 weeks til we move out of the rented house into the caravan!! Have started moving bits and pieces!! It's all feeling very real now!!!

Are you aware of the CMCA website? You do not need to be a member to access their Members Market section. Always lots of motorhomes advertised for sale on there.

Thanks Buffy, congratulations on finding the nephew. He doesn't want more does he LOL,
maybe we will be as lucky but I don't think so.
had a look at your bio, thought I was reading our own, wish you the very best experience you could imagine, remembers he saying, "don't die until your dead!."
see you on the road, Paul

We're roughly following a similar plan, Poppy. Like others here, we too are attempting to sell stuff and finding no one wants to buy. We're fixing up the house - all those things that I was going to do and never got round to have come around to bite. I hope the house sells as quick but then again maybe not - the van's not due until December.

Thanks Wendy, yes have been keeping an eye on that one, any idea how realistic the prices are, many of them seem a little rich for us. please remember we are very new to all this, not Nanking a statement just asking advice,.
is anybody here advertising on CMCA how do you find it?
also looking at trading post and gumtree, anywhere else we should be looking? We are in the dandy nog ranges in Vic.
Thanks

Whatever you plan, won't happen. Life is like that. We were on the market for four days, didn't get chance to do those little jobs, I suppose now I don't have to

Just a thought, my son is planning on relocating in the near future after a marriage breakdown and said he will put the whole house full of stuff on ebay and start it of at say........99cents and see where it goes, something is better then nothing and you would be surprised at what it would end up at, he watches all the time and no need for garage sales and all the stress as I said just a thought.

Did the same thing sort of. But found it very slow, altho I did manage to get rid of a lot of the small stuff this way.
Found it frustrating waiting around for no-shows not to turn up!!

Poppy,
you must live not too far from us.
Last year, we were after a bus conversion - wanted Coaster but also thought about Hino. I thought the CMCA ads we followed up on were mostly reasonably priced. Many had been set up and used by experienced campers and so had all the necessary stuff. We were about to go up country to inspect a couple.
But then we actually found our bus on the webpage of Roberts RV - Winnebago dealers on the Sydney Rd - Campbellfield?? It had been traded in on a Winnie. They had a range of used motorhomes there. We found them amenable to negotiation and the driver managed to get a reversing camera as part of the deal. After we had signed up and price set, they put the bus in for a raodworthy (only last 30 days in Vic, so see why it wasn't done before). As a result of this, they then got some brake work done, a couple of new tyres fitted and a couple of other things. Then their service department gave it a full service before we took it over. So, I was confident that it had been well checked for us. It is too old (94 Coaster) to qualify for their Winnebago roadside breakdown assistance scheme, but they did give us a 2 year mechanical warranty.
Please, please, please when you do find a van that you really like at a price you can afford, don't do anything until you've had a pre-purchase inspection done. Depending on where you are this can be easier said than done. I was in Sydney when I bought mine and the NRMA didn't want to know about a motorhome with a diesel engine. I used this mob http://www.carinspections.com.au/ and was very happy with them. They were very thorough, checked the motorhome part as well as the motor and gave me a quick report over the phone as soon as they'd finished as well as a written report by email.
I realise that it's all incredibly stressful for you now but try not to worry too much. After a couple of weeks on the road you'll be wondering why you worried so much. Happy travels.
Thanks Wendy I will chase up Roberts and see what they have, that sounds like a great experience, don't know where you are but we are in ****atoo. Thanks nomadic I know nothing, nothing about engines and stuff apart from the fact that if they are working, they make a noise. Would not be brave enough to buy without inspection, Thanks to you all.

Congratulations, went through the same scenario.
IF as we found, thinks were getting a bit tight for time, or fraught, or whatever...............
We hired a storage unit and self moved everything that we definately wanted to keep to the unit and had a 3 day garage sale for the rest, what we had left was not worth worrying too much about and the local OP shops were grateful. Once the sale went through, at our leisure with a packed lunch and a couple of beers, we then properly packed and stored what we anted to keep making sure that anything for the trip was kept to one side, it all worked out okay.
I hope my own experience may help you, but believe me, it'll be worth it in the end.
Happy travels
Mark

Hi Poppysoreeyes - glad to hear about your house selling so quickly, and that you will soon be on the road full time! It is a great life, if you don't like the view or your neighbours, just change them!!!
What sort of motorhome are you looking at? Coaster, Hi-Ace, or larger like ours - Jayco Conquest? Being on the road, we often see motorhomes and caravans for sale - I do know where there is a Hi_Ace for sale - in Victoria. I found the CMCA site offerings a bit on the pricy side as well, but they are usually pretty well set up, with not much to do, unlike when John (Yeoeleven) bought his - partially done - but he saved heaps doing it the way he did - think he is happy with it.

Hi Jules, I have been envious of yours since I first saw it IBM a photo posing, yeas that is what we want. We could not afford one as new or as nice as yours but please if you see something out here which you think is worthwhile please let us know.
