Ham & Techie help needed on IC-41S ..

Hi all ..

Having had a great run with my (2) ICOM IC-41S hand-held CB's (Now upgraded to 80ch),

I'm having a problem when trying to set them both up to run together under Tone Squelch using a CTCSS/DTCS operation.

I do have the Instruction Manual and have set up both to the same specs as I understand it to be .. but while I do see the signal arrive from one unit to the other (on the screen) the squelch does not open ..

Both radios show to be functioning well in all other aspects, which makes me feel that I'm still not doing something correctly ..

I can understand that say .. "Channel 9 .. Subtone 11" .. could refer to Channel 9 and the CTCSS tone number would be 11, but I'm still at a loss to understand how the DTCS code applies

and what dictates the selectability of a particular Code ..

Although holding only an "F" call licence, I still enjoy these sorts of challenges  .. your help would be appreciated !

Jon

Are you using the same sub-tone in each transceiver?

What is this DTCS you are talking about? Is it a DCS (digital coded squelch system?) You can't use digital and tone coded squelchat the same time. you must choose one or the other.

Hi Peter and thanks for your help ..

Yes .. have been trying with both units set the same ..

DTCS is Icom's reference to DCS .. no difference ..

Now that you have clarified a difference between the two operations, I've since been able to find some info that I will follow up on that might help me further ..

I will provide details here of any improvements I make ..

thanks guys .. Jon
