Contents insurance query

What is the general price people pay for caravan content insurance  while full time on the road ?. We have found that CIL do not  cover any tools,(bikes -only up to 300.00) or phones carried . What do people do to cover the possible loss of these items .

Cheers

I have my camper insured with an NRMA contents policy but to be honest I'm not sure exactly what "contents" means other than permanent fixtures.

Our 1999 Jayco is insured with Suncorp for $20.300 plus $1500 for the annex & $1000 extra 'contents'  ...  paid monthly $512/pa incl $35 stamp duty.

Can't find the disclosure booklet  .. have ordered a replacement.

We have $1,000 contents cover with CIL, but I don't think that is enough to cover TV, sat dish, cameras, phones, computer, etc. so we will look at increasing it when we get home.

We are insured with the NRMA.

Our house policy has a portable items part that covers most portable items when we travel........ however it costs extra.

We also have an additional $1,000 contents policy which brings the contents under our policy up to  $2,000. For the van.

As we have never had to claim (and do not want to for obvious reasons) I do not know what would happen if we did.

But according to the NRMA we are adequately covered and claiming would be easy.

Our van is insured with GIO and inclusive in the comprehensive policy is $3000 contents insurance, and a lot of the things you take from home are covered on home contents policy.

Met some people who had their 60l Engel and a 2kva Honda genie stolen from the canopy of their vehicle - insurance does not cover these items.

If you are underinsured, then you will only get a portion of your claim. For example, if your contents are worth $5000 and you are insured for only $1000, then you will only get one fifth of the amount you claim for, even if the value of the stolen items is $1000 in total. That is, if your laptop is stolen and it is valued at $1000, you will only get $200, less excess.

We live permanently on the road and our contents are insured for $8,000. If you look at a total loss of the van and contents and add the value of tv, computers pots and pans crockery, jocks n socks and everything that is packed in the van then I don't think it is an over kill. Think what it would cost to replace your summer and winter clothes.

Yes it does cost extra and eleven years down the track we haven't needed to claim, but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

We are insured with GIO,due to the fact that our Toyota is insured with them as well as the house and contents. We had smoke detectors in the van so we  got the contects added as extras.Computers, phones,TV sauspans clothing and also because we has smoke detectors we got an extra discount,

We had everything covered and I think that it was about an extra $6K and it coist all up for the van and contents about $380:00.We are also pensioners and also seniors as well

As we are still in the house our insurance is with CIL for contents it's $1,000. When we move permanently into the van we will increase the contents cover to $8,000 - $10,000, as I own a few electronic items.

We have $1000 cover I think. Not much but we don't have much in way of contents.

I was just thinking, can't you get insurance cover for your work tools?

I know a few people work ours of their utes and take their tools everywhere, so there must be an insurance that covers it.

Thanks for all your replies, we have now decided to go to 6,000.00 contents as we will be fully on the road. All Michaels tools will have to travel mostly uninsured as they suncorp which our tug is insured with will only cover 500.00 . CIL will not do tools, and we are going to carry all his plumbing tools with us for future work.

Cheers

Sorry Rita, I forgot about the nomad no address part. Yes your right no insurance company will insure them. That just sucks though.
