we are looking at selling out forester for a bigger tug so we can get a bigger caravan further down the track the forester will not pull much more than we already
i have looked at a Terracan, looks ok but have no idea how reliable thy are ,
i would hate to buy one and end up with a DOG of a thing, any help would be great
the one i looked at has done 85000 and thy want $22000
We had one for part of one trip and traded it as soon as we got the chance. I did not like it and my lady hated it. Expensive exercise as we only did a few hundred ks in it. we should have done what you are doing and asked around first.
Hi cowboy, Mate bought one in 2007 new, he was toyota thru and thru But used to change his toyotas over every 3 years or so, He still has the Terracan and it has done 270000 trouble free Klm[ some little things but no majors ?? ] He said he would not part with it for love or money, His wife said it was getting a bit old and wanted him to update ?? His answer to her was ???
Don't ask me to choose between You or the Terra ?? as you may not like the answer, !! -- I also wanted to buy one that was about 2-3 years old back in 2009. But they were very few and far between, as no one wanted to sell them, So there must be a reason eh ! rgs Dazren
We bought a Terracan diesel auto new in 2006, have done 150k, tow a 18' Supreme van, about 2100kgs fully loaded and we love the car.
From our home in Hervey Bay have done about 40k towing including a trip around the West Coast, a couple up to Cooktown and a squillion shorter trips.
Worst problems have been a flat battery and a flat tyre! Usually get about 14-15l/100km and I travel at 90-100kmh where safe. Have a number of friends with similar vehicles and all very pleased. Also met heaps of owners on the road and few if any negative comments.
From Tezza's comment it appears he just like the vehicle for personal reasons, not through its performance.
Feel free to PM me if you want anymore info.
Cheers

PS Ever noticed how few are available secondhand? Once people get one they don't let them go.

So as a owner would you say into days market one that has done 80+ks is worth $22000
We have a 2003 Terracan petrol. Bought it from original owner 18 months ago. Had 84'000k on it and is an auto Picked it up for $13,000. He is an auto electrician and put in everything we needed to tow the van. Absolutely love it. So comfy. Did have a look at diesel ones for about $20,000 Figured we could put a lot of petrol for the price difference
The Terracan is closely related to the 2nd Gen Pajero. I had a 2.8 intercooled diesel 2nd Gen Pajero and if the Terracan is anywhere near as good as they are I'd get one.

You don't know what you've got till it's gone so I gave it all away to see what I had.
I couldn't comment on price. Have a look around some of the car sales websites (carsales.com.au), should give some idea. Also the timing belt will need changing at 90k.
Not too expensive if you don't go to a Hyundai service centre, any good mechanic will be a lot cheaper, get a quote and use that to squeeze a lower price. I love haggling over the price.

Pay to make sure its had the big service around 80'000k?, I heard it was a pretty expensive service cost. A friend of mine tows a large van with a diesel and is pretty happy with his.
