Hi all, after all this talk about dutch ovens and bread makers, an idea popped into my head! I would like to propose a cooking competition/event/get together in July for Grey Nomads somewhere in Qld (to be nominated by popular choice).

We could do:- Best Casserole, best camp oven meal, Best meal in a Mug, best dessert, etc. etc. and at the end have a festive feast, something like Christmas in July. We could also get some sponsors involved to rustle up some RV gear as prizes. We will need to hold it where there's space for a large group, water and power etc.

There's a possibility I'll be horizontal with a bunch of doctors peering into my mouth in or about July, Jennifer. But I like your idea. July might be a bit soon because such an event could take a fair bit of organizing. Maybe you should approach Cindy, the GN webmaster, if the response to this thread is encouraging.

If it has to do with food, then it sounds like a good idea to us! Unfortunately July is a little too soon for us but we wish you well as its a great idea, cheers Capricorn

Of course there's always those who like to watch and taste! Too bad some of you won't be around during July - I have to be on the Sunny Coast end of August but I'll try to fit in with everyone. Lets aim at late July somewhere in Qld.

Hi everyone. This sounds like an interesting idea. We are always delighted when ‘forumites’ get together informally and have fun and form friendships. We have looked in the past at the idea of organising some sort of ‘official’ gathering but unfortunately it throws up all sorts of insurance-related issues. Hopefully, it is something that we will be able to work towards in the future but, at this stage, it really is just too difficult and too expensive.
It seems however that informal get-togethers of people who have ‘met’ through the forum are becoming increasingly popular ... and that is a wonderful thing! Hopefully, the camp oven meet-up will get off the ground and be a huge success but it will have to be something that remains unofficial and simply organised by interested parties. Along those lines, can I request that no-one approach potential sponsors on behalf of this forum. All of that sort of thing has to come through us and we can’t really get involved in the get-together side of things for the reasons outlined above.
Anyway, thanks for your understanding everybody. I hope everyone has a ball at this informal get-together ... and all the others that are happening more and more regularly.

Sounds Good,but a large area,power, water and fire for camp ovens in Qld in July hhhmmmmmmmmm, I wonder, maybe a showground. Also have to be pet friendly just threw that in to get everyone involved. Good luck Jennifer.You could have it at my place but I could only squeeze about 6 or 7 vans in and only if it was dry.

Under this same post in What's Cooking?

I suggested an online photo Camp Oven Cook Off.

The idea is to post a photo of the ingredients, then the sequence of cooking up to the end product.

So people can enter where ever they are. Maybe the Forum Moderators could be the judges?

I have tried organizing COGs (Camp Oven Gatherings) and it is virtually impossible to get a small number of people together on a date that suits all.

Just an idea.
