Hello zagg A ford territory would be a good towing vehicle for a 6x4 trailer Need a lot more info before a suitable response size of van ,weight etc Ken
ford territory is a reasonable towing veh you just have to know if it is a rwd or awd petrol or deisel you are req to use wdh and i suggest you would have to limit your speed i currently tow an 18ft 6 tandem axle and find the consumption when towing dissapointing i am in the process of updating from a awd petrol territory to a deisel colorado 7 brian
Territories are cheap to buy 2nd hand, cheap to service as most parts are Falcon, powerful as they have a large engine, reliable as many taxis are Falcons, very comfortable with sedan like handling, are very stable towing platforms and use the same amount of fuel as any other 2 tonne SUV...e.g. Patrol/Landcruiser petrol. They are also totally Australian made. For non-biased reports, Google "Ford Territory roadtest". I bought one because it was 1/3 the cost of an equivalent Patrol/Landcruiser and is easy/cheap to service as I do all my own repairs. Paid 10K for a 2006 model, done 30,000km in the last year and no problems. Good Luck.
Providing you keep to the specified limits of any vehicle they should all tow fairly well. Most increase their fuel consumption by 1/3re to 1/2 when towing big loads.
I am surprised the Territory owners have not shown their heads, they usually do. I had been waiting for this bloke to come on board. He ran a Territory for some time. I think his only reason for changing to a twin cab was he wanted more luggage capacity in the tug.

we have a 2011 Titanium AWD diesel - towing Coromol Camper with 2 kayaks on roof - no problems - hardly know it is there. Bought it last year - dealer demo vehicle. Great to drive and smooth tow - although, obviously have not towed anything larger than the camper - towing capacity 2700. Probably will upgrade the camper in a year or so to small van once the novelty of setting up and packing up the van morning and evening wears off.
Best of luck

Not to be rude Denis if your only towing an "A" liner then there isn't a great deal of drag on the tow, no more that a 6x4 box trailer
Geez Wombat, I wish it were as light as a box trailer - the ATM on the rego sticker say 1130KG so a bit bigger than a box trailer. I get 12l/100km both around town and towing @90kph admittedly with a low profile Avan Cruiser. My Territory can legally tow up to 2300KG and there are many towing up to that weight with no problems. All the road reports on Territorys say they make a good towing platform. They can't be too bad as they've sold over 130,000 of them. I'd love a 200 series Landcruiser or a D Max but I'd be scared of getting it scratched plus I'd have to pay to get it "serviced" as it would have a warranty. I just bought a new idler pulley for the drive belt - $22....last month I bought a new all alloy heavy duty radiator for $160 delivered as the old one is 200,000km old. When parts are this cheap you can replace parts before they fail - due to them sharing components with the Falcon.
Hi, we have a 2012 AWD Diesel Territory and tow a Legacy 20'6" van. It tows the van beautifully and we have no issues at all with it and we are close to max tow capacity, averaging 14L per 100K. It is comfortable and very well sound proofed. We have travelled some 7000k with the van behind and would recomend you look closely at one. Note that the AWD is rated at 2700KG towing capacity and the Rear Wheel Drive is down to 2300KG. The engine produces heaps of torque (I think 430Nm from memory) and I believe represents great value. However we did have a petrol version towing a Jayco 19'6" Sterling prior to our current unit and fuel consumption was terrible. We could barely manage 300K on a tankful. Best of luck whatever you choose.l
I towed with a Territory RWD petrol model for a number of years and was more than happy with its overall ablilty as a tow vehicle. While at the time it was by far the best tow vehicle I'd ever owned it was however quite heavy on the juice. Unfortunaltely my latest van was to heavy to legally tow with the petrol model so an updated vehicle was required. Apart from the Turbo lag of the new deisel model I would be quite happy to have one, but wasn't willing to part with the asking price. So my new tug is a twin cab auto diesel Colarado that was lower in price and had the tow capacity for the current van. All in all the Territiry is a pretty good tow vehicle. Cheers, ozjohn.
