Croc sighted at Birdsville

A salt water Croc has been sighted in the Diamantina rive, at Birdsville, 1Km from town. Simpson Desert Park Ranger Don Rowlands  it was sighted by most of the population living there, after it was first reported by a tourist. He went on to say they are not sure how it got there, but suspect it was put in the river by humans. He said signs would now have to go up warning people.

Here is an atricle from ABC news - looks like it is a freshwater croc, and has been released there.

I believe the curried camel pies at the Birdsville pub are pretty tasty.

Actually the food there is very good.

We flew in from Hawker, over Lake Eyre, last year & stayed at the pub overnight  ...  Just a short walk across the road from the plane.

Dinner there was first rate & reasonably priced.  The wine was a bit dear though but who's complaining.

They were doing a sell out of Pure Blond stubbies (left over from the races I think) on ice in the bar for around $2 each if I remember correctly.

We were in Birdsville in 2010 for the camel races when they were cancelled due to rain...We were all stranded for over a week, and yes the pub meals were good, and the beer was even better.

Heard on the Radio this morning, that they're not going to kill it now.  They're hoping it survives the cold weather, as it will be a good Tourist Attraction.

Cheers,

Sheba.
