As you know we are looking for a Toyota campervan there doesn't seem to be much around S.A. where we live and wondered if anyone had, had any experience of buying interstate if so how would this work as I don't think I would like to buy without seeing first and would also like to have a RAA or equivalent inspection done. Also we have to keep in mind that we are on a very limited budget so I think flying would be out of the equation Helena.
Hello Helena There has been one for sale in Echuca ( not from where Marj bought Myrtle) so if I see it I will get some details and photo's and get back to you Ken
I have recently upgraded my hiace van to a newer model. It would not be a good idea to buy one without seeing and testing the engine.
It is very hard to give any advice without some idea of how much money you want to spend. If you are looking at the cheaper end ( I would guess up to $8 or 9 thousand dollars ) then you are competing with the young backpackers market. I recently sold my old 1989 model for $8000 and I thought I would only get about $6000. The engine was good and the people who bought it said that there were a lot of clapped out vans for sale and they were thrilled with mine.
I spent a lot of time on the internet looking and made phone calls . I found what I wanted at the right price.
If you give me some idea of ;
1.what you have to spend,
2.what you want ( dieselor petrol)
3.poptop , high top or in between ( hiace commuter )
4.Automatic or manual
I know I will be able to look on the internet and I am sure others would enjoy the challenge
We are in Tassie, and bought our bus (8.5m mini-coach) over the internet from South Australia. It was a lot of emailing, phone calling, hemming and hawwing, but it was a good decision, and so far, the right decision.
We also had a sh*t experience earlier last year - bus in FNQ, lots of emails, phone calls, photos etc. 10 hours travelling in summer, to find that the bus was, well, a bust. Turned around and came home the next day. We also travelled all over Tassie in the 2 years previous, to see 'perfect' turn out to be 'perfect......... for the tip.'
It's a bit hit and miss, but sometimes, in the midst of all the rubbish, you find a gem. You just have to keep looking.

My son, who lives in Qld, bought his Nissan Patrol in Victoria. But his in-laws live in Vic, so he asked father-in-law to check it out. I dare say, he probably gave fil a list of things to check on. Then he and I flew down so he could collect from the in-laws and drive it home. (I only went as company on the drive home.)
