Presently at Boulia for the day, catching up on washing. Had a good trip up from Melbourne, spent a week at Narromine with an old friend who showed us around the cotton harvest, he used to be an agricultural research officer. Then we had a weekend with a cousin in Cobar and looked around the mines. Stayed at riverside free camps and some caravan parks on our way North, and as usual have met some lovely people. We visited a few museums and at the moment feel museumed out! Not a good feeling either when a significant amount of exhibits are things that we remember using (makes us feel even older). Also many are the same in every museum. Hence the decision to give museums a miss.
However we did the Min Min Light show today here in Boulia. It was an excellent show using modern lighting special effects and talking mannekins, and not dear either $12-50 each (seniors).
We had drizzle all the way from Winton yesterday and road edges were quite soft. I was quite surprised how little rain it took to make the edges slushy. Made making room for oncoming traffic tricky, slowing right down before moving off on edge and stopping, as a lot of the road was only one vehicle wide seal, any body with a van pulling off at speed would have been in big trouble. The camp owner here in Boulia was expecting a quiet day with the wet but was taken by surprise with all the vehicles in for the night. The road from Boulia to Birdsville had barriers across when we arrived last night. I see in Cindy's front page that the Tanami was closed yesterday also.
Tomorrow its off through Isa to the Gulf and then to Katherine where we have some volunteering to do for BCA (bush church aid), repairing and painting church buildings and property.
Will not stop long in Isa as that is where we made it to when we were up here last yr. and had a look around then.

Well would you believe it? When I was typing for KA I found out the direction we are traveling in. I thought we were going via three ways. So there you are.
He omitted to mention that he had an argument with an emu yesterday. The **** bird decided to cross the road just as we got level with it. No harm done to either bird or car, just a few feathers flew, a minor dent in the driver's door and a couple of bruised egos.

When do you think you will be in Katherine? I am at Pine Creek for a couple of weeks, then down to Katherine on the way to Perth. Could give you a hand also:)

Sounds like fun all round over there, I was going via Roma, Emerald but heaps of water around there too so decided to go Miles, Banana, Rocky and the Bruce up to Townsville, currently in St Lawrence free camp, nice too but very busy.

So all that wondering over where we will go comes down to final decisions being over-ruled by weather. Enjoy your travels Kiwi-as, kiwi rainbow and Dougwe. Wet roads or not.
im hoping by next wednesday but dont know ,he does,t seem to fussed and it is a warranty job but we will see .temp for the next week 30c ,absolutely heaven Heather and Norma are spendingtheir regulatory 2hours per day in the sulphor pools at a comfortable 34c R H & M & N
As regard to you trying to cull emu,s i managed to cull as near as we can guess a 9 to 10 foot king brown, norma saw it come out the back of the van squirming quite a bit ,5 wheels tend to hurt a bit ,he could have a broken back ROD
Rod, stopped 50km outside of Isa. Heading for Borroloola for 2or3days, hopefully catch a fish for tea. Then Katherine if you are still around, would love to meet up.
Now in normal circumstances a kiwi attacking an emu would have to peck it on the ankle, and that could be likely to cause an outbreak of interstate rivelry, with the east islands against the rest, but in this instance the significance of bird on the NZ dollar attacking the bird on the Aus coat of arms appears to have escaped without note.
When it comes to location we are still stuck in Melbourne, incredibly jealous of all you lucky people in friendlier climates.
