Alice Springs N T

Thought some of you may like this bit of Information.......In Alice Springs N T there are heaps of places in and around Alice  one can stop and rest/sleep  I did not notice one   NO CAMPING SIGN.....Having flown here for a couple of days am staying at Lasserters casino  Shirls and I have been driving around the Area in a Hired Car......I even asked a copper about Independent stays and he said No one really worries you here they even can ride their Bikes without a helmet   I mean if one is just passing through it's a great place to stop

I've been to Alice many times over the years as my family used to live there. This advice is the absolute opposite of everything I've ever been told... was he joking? There is a reason for the high fences around peoples houses in the town, and around caravan parks, also the signs about locking up your valuables. No way would I camp overnight on the Todd.

Well I was there yesterday 22/5/2013 and i spoke with a cop who was sitting in his car beside the Todd River near Lasseters casino and I approached him and that is what he said to me.....What point would I be trying to make with bull ****  I said in and Around the area Not Camping for any length of time  One night mayb instead of a caravan park......How about your experiance with the Push bike no helmet attitude  Am I wrong there?   When I'am in towns I check everyting for  possible spots  for future trips....And I ask locals everything I figure i need to Know......If you know so much about Alice then you would know what I mean.

We were there 3 years ago.  Loved it but did not feel safe enough to free camp anywhere, as at that time there was a lot of trouble with people breaking into vans.  They would even hoist the smallest kids through flaps to steel wallets and anything they could carry off.  They were so quiet - they were able to get in and out whilst the occupants were sleeping, then they just melted into the night.  disbelief

However aside from that Palm Valley was absolutely gorgeous loved it.  Also the Transport Museum and the Desert Park.

It is a truly beautiful area just a great shame that thieving is so rampant.  I hope it has changed but from what I hear it has also become a more violent society.

Enjoy the good bits.

Where did you leave your caravan when you went to Palm Valley BriVee? We took the tent out there and left ours at G'day Mate.

r

We also stayed at the G'day Mate at that time it was $195 for 6 nights with the 7th free.  We took a day trip out to Palm Valley as we dont do tenting due to arthritis, if I got down on the ground into a sleeping bag, would waste too much time everytime I needed to "go"y.  I must admit it would have been brilliant at night the stars and the peace and quiet of the country are really something.  What did you make of the night? and how long were you out there?

We stayed at Ormiston gorge... and that's a cheap camp I can truly recommend.

You do not free camp close to the township of Alice Springs EVER.
Specially not by the Todd River.
You would only free camp way out of town.
My daughter lives there and my ex sister in law and
her husband run a Motel there. The stories they tell
would curl your hair
Would only stay in a Caravan Park in Alice.
Beautiful country town with so many problems
.

Things haven't improved there yet, despite what the Govt &Police try to tell us.

2 backpackers gang raped in a suburban street last year, where they were free camping in their station wagon
