Have just checked out an Aliner fitted with a fibreglass ensuite as per the picture. The gentleman selling the van also made the unit - 3 in fact - with a view to selling them but has found the cost is too great. It seems a good idea but at $2000 bare plus installation it's just too much especially when you can buy an outside pop-up ensuite for a fraction of that figure. This unit required use of a step to enter the cubicle. The sides telescoped up so that a six footer could stand with no problems. It could double as extra storage but that kind of destroys the concept.
The comforts of a built in ensuite are probably indisputable but that looks to me, without knowing the set up details, like a lot of effort for a shower and ****.
Having a "built in" in the camper isn't really feasible (even if possible) but I can set up my pop up ensuite with shower and toilet in less than 5 mins which suits me fine. A bit of comfort compared to the old days but the KISS principle still applies.
For $2000.0 that seems to be poor quality work and finish?
I agree 100% - the original price was $3000 and all you get for that is the cabinet and vinyl cover - the shower and toilet you supply and fit plus the drawbar needs another 250mm added and the gas bottles must be moved to the side. To me it looked like one of those dog wash machines where you walk the dog in to wash.
Someone in Melbourne is selling Chalet "A" style campers on Ebay which have a proper shower/toilet at the front. Bottom line is that a camper is a camper.
