TELSTRA CAN BE GOOD AFTERALL

Yep, just had a good old chat to good old Telstra and it was good too.

At the end of the chat I have come out better off than now and at no extra cost to me, few!

I have ended up with more included calls than now, more included Data than now, still unlimited Texting, no change to my billing cycle, no change to my Plan expire time and best of all I have the same monthly cost that I have now.

My Mobile Phone is used as a modem for my Laptop and iPad all the time now, it has been in trial mode for the last few months and is working greater than great, just love my iPhone.

Probably the most important thing is they sent me an email confirming all this.

One happy Telstra customer and camper here.

Hope I am as lucky on Monday with Centerlink.

Are you on Pre-paid or Post-paid Doug?  Do you know the name of the plan?  I have just (yesterday) reconnected with Telstra Simplicity Pre-paid plan as that was the best to suit me that I could find.  Always keen to find something better though.

Cheers Neil

No offence taken Marj, just shows the lack of my edumacation I spose. I see heaps of little things like that but don't  really care as it is only a forum anyway and not a job application etc.

Don't get me wrong though this is the BEST forum around and I have said that many times and I tell you that for free as well.

I am now on a monthly $79.00 plan with an extra 3GB data pack. I got a deal that kept the cost the same as I pay now.

I use my iPhone as a modem at all times now, I have no other form of internet. Not sure if that helps Neil sorry.

I tried to get unlimited calls and texts but would have to pay a cancellation fee of current plan then update but I couldn't see the sense in that as I have 12 months left on my plan then I can change to unlimited calls etc then.

I am confident the new plan will work out for me anyway.

Great conversation, I learn so much on this forum, you are confident that the data allowed will meet your needs, on average how much do you guys use, forum eMail Skype how much is enough.

i see that telstra has a data only pact 12 gig lasts a year for $189, is that enough?

Hi Paul and Hazel, I don't download movies etc and seem to use between 2 & 3 GB per month on average, checking emails, going into the forum 2-3 times a day max, checking a few web sites as needed and Google Maps. With 5GB now I will have change, so to speak but at the end of each billing cycle will loose whatever I haven't used, them's the breaks.

Your comment about great conversations and learning is correct, this forum is very entertaining and educational at all times, just be careful where you step as there are many wombat holes to fall down. A mate of mine on this forum thinks he is a wombat and he is trying very hard to make more holes, ooops, sorry, fill them in smile

Make sure you check out all the other sections of the forum and the actual GN web site, also very interesting and edumacational smile

I reckon I might get into trouble for that smile Don't tell anyone please.

They are getting better all the time IMHO,,,,,, had problems in the past that were ignored but responses now seem to be tailored to fix the problem not just record it.

A recent exeption with Bigpond (we use it in the van out bush with external antenna) Telstra insisted the problem was my end, but a technical investigation revealed not enough bandwidth at the Marion SA site so all services are slow (get booted off etc) and no plans to upgrade the tower to match demand,, ahhhhhhhhhhh how frustrating.

But out bush it works well.

Thanks Doug, I already know that you need to be aware of the Wombats around here, I have seen the tracks they leave ;-/, and the trouble they can cause

I do keep an eye on the rest of the forum its all great. Can't wait to join you all.

Never forget how privileged and lucky you are. I know that we have all worked hard to be able to live our dream, but others work hard as well, maybe they don't have the nerve.

Yes, Im another happy Telstra customer. I also use my phone the same as Dougwe, but I am on a $49 plan which gives $550 calls, 1.5 gig and unlimited texts. I just renewed my contract yesterday and was told that this plan is becomming obsolete which I believe means its good value and they're not making as much money on it as they should be!

Cheers

Leongatha has the same problem as Marion. No usable signal once the school releases the students from school. It starts at 3pm and lasts till 9pm. Telstra have investigated the problem but the lady in India says there's nothing wrong with the system. It appears that all the wireless broadband users in Leongatha complain over nothing. Other wise we get good service in our area, but  the service went down hill the day  I left Telstra.  yawn

I have the same $49 plan with Telstra. I have never had problems with them on my phone. I did try and use them as my Internet provider years ago, but they couldn't deliver the connection speed they promised, so they let me out of the contract and I went with Iprimus. They are brilliant, but they use Optus for their mobile phones, but they have my home Internet and Telstra have my phone.

George  my info is that the plan is now modified to be $50 per month, $600 included calls BUT now only 1g data. Bring your own phone - so even if you don't have a phone you can just but one and get the deal and you're way in front.

No matter how nice I am to them, they still make mistakes at my expense.  I consider contact with them a traumatic experience.

Oh, as for grammer here, or is it spelling, if "few" is phew, then someone may "mine" other facets of life's lessons and wouldn't" mind" one little bit.

I have just switched to Aldi, they have a $35 a month plan, no contract, unlimited calls and text 5GB of data and use the telstra 3G network. I tether my iphone to the laptop and this is my only form of phone and internet connection at home or on the road. So far I have found it excellent.

Sounds like a good deal,,, my only question is are you home or travelling and if travelling can you get the same access to the 3G network as Telstra because I have heard (the old grapevine rumour) that Telsta customers have priority on their network.

Cheers Baz

Thanks JB,,

In Renmark SA now,,, bigpond wireless useless after school kids get out, Crazy John's doesn't work here obviously,,, and because I hadn't used Optus for 12 months they cancelled my prepaid sim (damn Optus tower close by), seems after 6 months with no use they simply cancel it, oblivious that I paid for the USB modem and sim card to use at my convenience.

Welcome to the country eh. When we were on the road before, the problem with bandwidth to towers etc was nowhere near what it is now.

Won't be able to Skye grandson for his birthday with this slow a speed.

Gee thanks for that info, bad enough now in certain areas to get service being a Telsra customer ,let alone standing in line if you belong to another brand name...I recon people have just become used to getting crap service from Telstra ,that when they do get some kind of service ,It's like HAY ,i have to tell the world about the service i got from this company .who only normaly gets bad revieves regarding customer service.

My wife's phone which she very seldom uses is on Telstra $20 per month with call costs of $1.00 per minute, and she is about to switch to Aldi (Telstra) $15.00 for 12 months no call connection fee and call costs of 12 cents per minute.

Why would you use Telstra Telstra when there are a number of other Telstra network providers at a fraction of the cost

Unfortunately when you live in the country, there is only Telstra. We don't have Aldi anywhere near us, so thats not going to happen here. Optus and Virgin don't work here, even though we have a Telstra tower within sight of our house.

Not on your own there Grams regarding a choice of telco services to choose from ,we are in a city of over 35,000 people counting the surounding area is a whole lot more, and the only real hope you have of any provider is to use Telstra.

I read all the complaints and moaning about TELSTRA and always have a bit of a laugh. I have been with Telstra for years for ALL my telecommunications and have never had a problem with them. Yes they are more expensive but the old saying "you get what you pay for " comes to mind.  I use a Samsung Galaxy phone and a telstra 4g wireless modem and gives me good coverage almost anywhere. Internet does get a bit slow at peak times I must admit.
