So sorry to hear your dreams have been shattered ,so sad to hear your storey.Maybe you will find a way out of the situation you have found your self in.All the best .
Sorry to hear that beachball, I do know exactly how you feel. When your dream has been shattered by family, it destroys your faith in people. Don't let it destroy your motivation and determination, in time like me, you will get back out there again. One step at a time is all I can do at the moment with plans not to let them stop me altoghether.
a small business venture was caused to fail by emplying a family member while I have been recovering from ill health,, guess partly my fault by not keeping a closer eye on things but i would have thought that family was more than trust worthy,, now our money is gone the business looks like it has to be wound up,, gunna take us years to recover from this,,time when we should be saving for the big trip ! no hope of getting any money back that they stole,, they have declared bunkruptcy,,,,hard lesson learnt, have just been looking at maps of where we planned on going, brought a tear to my wifes eye,,I feel like i have let her down,,looks like we'll just be arm chair nomads for now

Just remember to travel, you do not need the newest and biggest set up,as long as your rig and tug are comfy and roadworthy ,you can still do it.Maybe hitting the road could be one of the best moves you could both do for your healing process.Maybe short trips at first ,then who know's where the next trip will take you.If you are still able to work , think about that aspect of your travel plans.Working a bit and travel a bit, People on here travel with just the pension as their means of income ,and have a wonderful time.( i take my hat off to these people as i confess i know i could not survive doing it in that way ) But they do it with gutso. As long as you both have got your health i guess that is a gift that no one can take away from you both and at least you still have each other to get through these most difficulte times. My motto is enjoy life to the best of your ability today as tomorrow may never come. All the best and stay positive in this hard part in lifes journey, remember also the sun will still come up in the morning.
It give you the biggest kick in the a##se when you plan and make financial arrangements for your future and retirement and thru no fault of your own some other greedy, thieving bastards comes along and have different ideas for your money and how to use it Hang in there and keep the dream alive Ken
I wanted to say again I'm sorry. This happened to us with a friend, we trusted her, and she stole thousands of dollars from us. We ended up selling up, as we lost our house too, as well as our business. We moved out of the city and into the country, we rented for a while and we got back on our feet, and now it's our turn to start enjoying ourselfs.
I just wanted to let you know, it's devastating when it happens, but brush yourselves off and start again. We are selling everything to make this move permanently into the playground. We can stay with our kids, so we have a place to stay while seeing specialists. But we are going to live off our pensions, with only a small amount of back up money.
If it's any consolation, another member of the forum here hired a manager to look after their business while they were doing the big loop, cost the business big time, has now returned, sacked the manager and turning things around, let down big time!

Couldn't have said it better myself Ken!
Hope the future brightens for you soon BB. We have also been badly burnt by so called family, both sides, at least you have a choice with friends. Pick them wisely and with reservation. Take care of each other.

Sorry to hear that Beachball, you'd think you could rely on family and I guess that makes it more painful .... but what goes around comes around and kharma will get them.
well I've closed the business doors (for now) manage to pay all the debtors, which has taken all of our "big trip money" but at least we don't owe anyone anything,,,managed to keep the house so at least we are not living under a rock,,,had to get rid of the caravan and tug but had enough to buy a pre owned 80 series land cruiser and a camper trailer, so we can at least go away for a weekend or something like that,, the bride is still working and i hope to get a part time job in the next week or so, so at least we'll have so sort of income,,,,,to be honest I thought the world had come to an end, but the sun still rises in the morning and everyday the feet are on the ground is a good day,,,,this year we had planned on an extended trip up tyo broome and that part of the country but now thats been put off as has the big trip,,,I have 8 years before I can retire "officially" so now the nomadding wil be done then but in the mean time we'll be part time nomads,, so for now i spend my spare time getting the 80 series and the camper trailer set up for the odd trip away when we can....life goes on...but it makes it hard for me to trust anyone again in that situation,,,, hard lesson leanrt i guess

Good on you beachball. You have worked out the situation and rectified what you can. Thats all you can do and move on. All the best for the next 8 years and beyond.
Hello Beachball, Good to hear that you pulled through all your problems, now you can look to whats ahead for you and your wife.So no good looking back ,just look forward, and i always say the sun will still come up in the morning and i am one of the lucky buggers i woke up alive. At least now you both can still get away for a few days at a time, just say to your self it is you apprenticeship into this nomadic lifestyle.Me and the wife love to just take the Oz tent and head off ,so much easier in a lot of ways to really get into some magficent places to camp,as the van restricts you into a lot of these places.
Beachball, I am so glad you didn't go under, and that you were able to pay your debts and not have this hanging over you. We have also had to sell caravan and vehicles in the past to make ends meet. So I know where your coming from. A least your nomadic lifestyle has not been cancelled, just postponed for a while.
Hopefully the trips in the camper trailer will be practice for the main part later.
We have taken 35 years but in that time we have nearly every road in NSW covered, 2 or 3 different routes to Cairns, a lot of Victoria, a lot of SA and most of the south of WA done and 2 trips to Tasmania at different times of the year. We still hear of things in places we have already been that we would like to see so no doubt we will go back and explore some more. Our kids have even thanked us for the road trips they have been on as they have seen many more places than their friends have seen. And it has all been on a tight budget in a second hand caravan.
So our message would be - Just Do It.

As you said, the sun continues to rise each day. Keep positive. Enjoy the trips you can have. A lot of us have had to wait until we could do what we have done. We still haven't done the big one but have enjoyed the shorter trips we have had.

Good point you make there neilnruth, you do not have to do the lap to enjoy this grate country.Doing shorter trips over a period of time you get to see more of a particular area than trying to do much in a short time frame.A lot of people have done the lap ..and that is all it has been one big lap.Never stoping long enough in one place to enjoy what it has to offer.
Good on you Beachball and congratulations on picking yourself up and starting over. I take my hat off to you! that is something you can be very proud of. Whatever time you can take to get out in the playground enjoy it but most of all, travel safely.
