I might suggest that if you go above to the heading " search " .. and enter "diesel heater" .. you will find some good reading matter on that subject ..
kind regards

We have a diesel heater and it was the best addition to the van ,we went diesel because we travel full time and we don't want to run out gas for cooking. Herbie I wished i could get 6 months from a 9kg and so would the people we have spoken to so what's your secret
Hi Barrie, OOPS i should have been more pacific in my post regarding the gas heater ..The 15hrs in 24 hrs SHOULD HEAVE SAID 5/24 the unit may only run for 2/3 hrs per night with cycling, depending on how cold it is outside. So gas consumption is hardly nothing. We have never used it since arriving in Central QLD. But the aircon gets a work out. Have just put in a Marine fan and do not understand why i had not done this before. The aircon drives me crazy on all night, but with the fan no compresor cutting in and out.Regarding the gas heater my consumption on useage of gas was not taken useage of gas heater being used every day/night, just over the 6 month period we used it that was how much gas i went through. Maybe it is dearer to run than diesal ,but for the amount of time we need it it works out ok for us.Probably not the best option if you had to spend time say in Vic/ Tasmania during winter. I hope you can understand my calculations on my useage of the gas heater.

we had a diesel heater installed last year, have only used it a couple of times, but we are very happy with it, except we find it a little noisy, especially outside the van so neighbours would not want to be too close. Seems to be very economical. Also good that it can be turned on/off without getting out of bed. Brenda.
I have installed a gas heater in my van , it is very eco and quiet to run. The reason i put it in was crossing the Nullarbor the last time was nearing the end of winter, coldest night we have ever put in since being on the road, slept in our clothes .doona , wife in dressing gown as well .Got to Adelaide and had it installed. If i run the heater say for 15hrs per 24hrs and gas stove a 9kg gas bottole would last me around 6 months. Also if you look about at some older posts from a few weeks back people were descussing diesel. But everyone has their own oppinion on what best suits them ,so i say reserch before you do anything.

We have a Diesel heater in the van, which I installed in 2011; we used it quiet a bit on our trip last year.
As to the noise level, people have said that they are noisy but I have found that ours is no noisier than the rooftop A/C when close to the van outside.
As Jon has said there is a little noise at start up and there is the slight kerosene smell until it warms up.
As we have never had a Gas heater in the van and don't no anyone that has I cannot comment on their performance, but after the trip last year I would not have a van with out one especially when bush camping.

.. like Barrie I travel full-time and had a diesel heater fitted a couple years ago.
Much of the performance of the unit can be based on firstly , the insulation you have to the hot and cold weather ..
and secondly, how you choose to use it ..
If your van/motorhome has good insulation, then even in the dead of winter, I can have it cycling at a low setting most of the time once a comfortable heat level has been achieved.
When initially switching on, mine can be a little noisy outside too if turned up too high. Inside, I have no problem with any noise.
Another little consideration that I opted for, was not to have the outlet/outlets facing directly at my sleeping zone. It may heat up the area more quickly by doing so, but I didn't want all the moisture to be pushed away and replaced with dry air when sleeping ..
I have had both diesel and gas. My first MH had a diesel heater which worked well but I thought it was quite noisy and there was always a slight diesel odour.
I have a gas heater in my current van and even though there is no difference in the heat they emit, I prefer it to the diesel. It runs silently and there is no odour.
I love it on cold mornings. My MH is small and I only have one outlet, but when I wake up in the morning I turn on the heater, open the shower door so the warmth can get in then get back into bed until the van warms up.
If I'm cold I'm miserable, so it was a must have for me.
I have just purchased a gas heater for my van and it should be delivered tomorrow. Guess what I'll be doing for the next few days. I will do most of he installation but leave the gas connection to a licenced Gas Fitter. The decision to go gas rather than diesel was difficult, but after reading comments on other forums and this forum and also speaking to several people who have had both at some point I eventually decided on gas. I hope I have made the right decision - it was not cheap.
