a couple of weeks ago i pulled into a woolies/caltex servo filled the patrol with diesel grabbed the wifes rewards card and the the servo attendant said you got a good deal 20% discount per ltr couldnt believe it didnt argue and drove off anyone else had this discount

Yes we have. Your wife maybe activated it online from their rewards email.
We had the opposite last week. Checked our points balance and due to have 16c off but only gave us 8c. When I queried it they said it had already been used but would credit us with another 16c one! Very nice of them.
We use these all the time - it only takes $30 spending at both Coles and Woolies to get an $0.08 / litre voucher. We normally stay in one place for a week before moving on - as a minimum it would be pretty easy to spend $30 a week just topping up our depleted van supplies. On this basis we always seem to have discounted petrol to move on with. But we also keep an eye out for the higher discounts when they come up from time to time. It all helps to make our touring costs cheaper.
