Well you might be right this place might not be suitable after all.

yes there is a cost $ 12 per night

bookings yes with National parks and wildlife

motorhomesÂ and caravans are permitted ( as per local information from hotel ) Yes toilet block

This place used o be free , many others as well camped there free 7 years ago

I camped there in my van, no charge or booking, I will ph tomorrow and see

There's a bit of confusion here Paul. What exactly is the name of the place you're talking about ? They don't sound like the same place at all.

6. Norval Park Campground:
Is located close to the oceanfront between Rules Beach and Miara. The property has been developed by Council to provide basic 'bush' camping of a zero or minimum facilities nature. Camping at Norval Park Campground is arranged by purchasing a permit (please phone the Bundaberg Tourist Information Centre on (07 4153 8888), and is open to tents and camper trailers only. Caravans, motor homes and camper vans are not permitted. Council will inspect the site regularly to verify and enforce permits for each site. The campsite has a basic toilet facility and hand basin only. Campers must bring their own water supplies with them. Get Directions»

Re Norval Park.

I have previously posted about Norval Park just north of Bundaberg.

There is a council operated park there whcih only accepts camper trailers and tents at $5.50 ppn.

However, go thru the camp ground and there is a track that leads to plenty of sites for free camping. The council has tried to barricade this for ages but the locals keep tearing down the barricades (the last I'd heard the council had given up) and I've never seen it closed off yet. the first 100 metres or so is ok for 2wd after that it's 4wd along a pretty good track although soft sand in places. the last time i was there was in November last year and no problems, people everywhere although not crowded.

I believe the land is not owned by the council but one of the sugar companies (I may be wrong, heaven forbid) and they don't care if you camp there.

IÃÂ have heard that there is also a free o/night camp (not sure)ÃÂ at Yandaran which is the little village (well a pub and general store) about 13 klm from Norval and on the way. After you leave Yandaran there is about 6klm of dirt road but usually pretty good.ÃÂ i was speaking to a chap at work this week and he was there last weekend and said the road is quite ok.

I'm going out there this weekend or Agnes Water ( Workman's Beach) not sure yet.

Also if you look at Workman's Beach in the Camps book it says very small rigs but I've seen large mortorhomes, landcruisers etc with 26' vans in there andit costs $5.50 ppn (last time I was there). The ranger (last time anyway) is a pleasant fellow and is easy to get on with. I know ended the sentence with a preposition but i'm lazy.

PS: Norval Par is self sufficient if you free camp, the council park has toilets but no drinkable water (and i mean don't drink it).ÃÂ Workmans Beach has water, cold open showers and drop toilets.

I think you will find the booking is through Bundaber Regional Council. just google Norval Park camping and follow the links.

My niece took me for a drive through a few years ago. They used to camp there alot before the council changed things. At the time I saw it, there were about 8 designated camp spots, and not too generous at that.

Going in further, as Jack says, sounds better, but only for 4WD-ers. cry

It's not only 4wd'ers. I've been in with 2 wd but not quite as far. Just have to pick your spot. Have seen plenty of motor homes (2wd) in there.

Just as an aside there are 10 camp spots and are quite generous at about 8 -10 mtrs sq. Plenty of room for a ten or two or camper trailer. I have also seen motorhomes, hi-aces etc stopped o/night in the parking area. I've never seen any moved on although this is not necessarilly council protocol.

Hi Beth,

No dampener, this forum is about gleaning as much info as we can, it's not often I an give first hand experience but in this instance I can.

I was thinking of a nose job. Surgery cost ok but couldn't afford the scaffolding.

I will be heading south to Vic about that time Paul. Can't see me doing many more trips away before I go except into Bundy sometime. Only 8 weeks to go and have a bit to do on the van before I leave.
I will be eager to get back out there again when I come back around the end of July.

Thanks Jack/John. I've had far too many down days with all these medical problems. I'm getting frustrated with not being able to 'get out there'. I'm supposed to get a letter from PA within the next 2 weeks. So I'll have a bit better idea of what I can do once I have a date.

Sorry for digressing Paul. I've stayed at St Lawrence a couple of years ago, and it was a good spot, although a little miserable at the time because of rain. There are toilets and showers...$1 for 3 minutes. And a genny area and a non-genny area. It's actually the Polocross Club, and if you time it right, you might get to see the polo.

We did a drive-through of Workman's Beach camp while we had a sightseeing trip to 1770 last week, Beth. Did not turn us on at all I'm afraid.

Just wondering, did you get out and have a walk down to the beach? I am probably biased but I love the place. Great beach and nice camp ground.

No John, to be honest beaches do very little for me. Country boy that much prefers rivers & dams. To my mind, the campground at Wuruma Dam was streets in front of the one at Workmans and it was streets behind the one at Teresa Creek Dam near Clermont.
