Can I Do Running Creek Road?

How hilly, first gear hilly?  Can I enquire what you're outfit is?  Hang on, you mean up to the Park, I am going through to Sunny Coast and only free camp anyhow, and apparently the road follows the train track , so I guess I just have to worry about the weight limit.

Good Morning Fellow Nomads

Question:  I am driving from the NSW Mid North Coast to the Sunshine Coast in June and would like to go via The Risk and Rathdowney.  'The Cave' as you can see from my Avator, stands about 3 metres high because of its hump at the front - is anyone familiar with this road, can I do it?

Thanks

Jennifer  confuse

Hi Wild1, We were out there last weekend,Andrew Drynan Park ( a great spot for camping). The lowest bridge we encountered was 3.5m our rig goes 3.2,we entered from Rathdowney,Running Creek rd and when we left headed for Kyogle along Lions Rd. Some of the Timber Bridges heading towards Kyogle were 5T limit. Camping was $6/head,only a Toilet block there, right on the creek. Plenty of fireplaces all over park, bring your own wood or Caretaker will sell you a bag for $15.Cheers

If you are coming in from Rathdowney and only want to camp at Andrew Drynan Park you will be right,if you are coming from Kyogle then you wil encounter these Timber bridges getting to the Park, about 50k's from Kyogle, winding and hilly.

Second gear was the lowest, but you wont get up any head of steam anyway because of the bends and hills. You are running parallel to the Mc Pherson Ranges, beautiful Countryside.Lions road passes through someones property,Cattle roaming free not fenced only cattle grids at each end, bitumen rd apparently put in and maintained by the local Lions Club,Donation bucket at the southern end of property.

We have a Winnie, yes most of the bridges you go under are Railway cross overs. I think we went over 10 bridges, criss crossing the creek. Park isn't free, well maintained,Toilets clean,Caretaker comes through a few times a day,he lives across the road and is paid by the council to maintain it.Last weekend there would have been 30 campers there,I reckon it could accommodate about 70 or more.

Leaving in the next day or two, winging it for however long it takes to return....Happy happy days ahead. I had already planned to stop at Coopernook state forest then Kyogle showground.

Andrew Drynan Park sounds like an ok place, since I love taking photos of bridges you've given me my next stop, Thanks

Helen

If your not sure about going via The Lions Rd take the Mt Lindsay Highway to Rathdowney then drive back into Andrew Dryan Park.
If you do travel via Lions Rd there is a good rest area at the Railway spiral where the line goes into a spiral to get over the high point in the line.
Both routes are interesting.
