Tyre Gauges

A simple question but an improtant one as I am sure you will all agree.

Have just purchased a new pressure gaugue for the tyres (Slime Brand from Repco about $40) and it is reading all over the place.   does anybody have any recommendation for a RELIABLE gauge please.

Happy campfires    Pommyroy

I have just fitted Davis  Craig tyre monitoring system to my MH. Seems to give acurate pressure at the press of a button at anytime you want. Over and above that you also get visual and audio warning while you are mobile. You get the warning long before you destroy a tyre. Not a cheap option but tyres are not cheap either. My system monitors 6 tyres but can do up to 22 so can have car and caravan covered.

what model is it Roy.

they are advertised online from less than $2 upwards to digitals???

I use a Bushranger from ARB,,, so far very accurate but not so for airbags with low pressure (by the time you screw off the airbag pressure drops 50-80%)

I would take it back for a refund Pommy.

The odds against getting an "accurate" gauge is not very good but...any gauge should be consistant.  If it is a couple Kpa out it doesn't matter but it is important to have equally inflated tyres.

Bazz421, go to an Off-road shop and you should be able to get a Pencil style gauge that reads 0 to about 20psi max scale.  They come from tyre deflator kits to accurately (consistantly) set tyres to 15 - 20 psi.  Ideal for your airbags.

Cheers Neil

I also have one of those Baz, from ARB also.

I dropped mine and the gauge shows about 4 psi higher than it should be (compared with three other types of tyre gauges which all show readings close to each other).   So now I just adjust the air pressure accordingly allowing for the higher psi.  Still double check with another gauge though, usually a good quality pencil type made in Sheffield England.
