Don't know about favourite driving song, [ don't watch youtube], but I'll never forget my ex. nearly driving us off the bridge over the River in Saskatoon, Canada, in the sixties, 'cause he was laughing so hard at "They're coming to take me away ha ha."
And it was just at the start of the Thaw. Water would have been freezing.
Cheers,
Sheba.

As someone who grew up in the 60's, i enjoy most of the hits from that era, especially Cliff Richard. Can not stand any of the noises that today's generation like. I do however love listening to Celtic Thunder ... in particular the song Heartland. If you have not heard it, google the uTube version. I listen to it over and over trying to figure the pronunciation of some of the gaelic ( i think it is) language which is the chorusm.. I know the translationmoney! When I finished worked, i could put Heartland on repeat when i left work and by the time I got home i listened to it 4 times!!!
so, my fav driving song ..... Heartland by Celtic Thunder!

My alltime favourite is 'Hotrod Lincoln' by Johnny Bond - great song for a night when you cruise the streets in your Cusso looking for other V8's to race at the lights. Second would be 'Stichshift' by the Duals. The magic burble of a sidevalve V8 at the start. Then I hit 20 and chicks took over - songs changed to "I love how you love me" by the Paris Sisters and "the end of the world' by Skeeter Davis.
It's strange - when you play those songs it transports you back in time and you can actually feel the emotions of the time.
Good early morning srarter is the old Kohhny Nash tune . . . .
I can see clearly now the rain is gone I can see all obstacles in my way Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin' day It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin' day
Played at volume 20 of course
Wonderful way to start EVERY day
Cheers . . . . Keith

Grate songs ,really enjoy the bluesyyyy /country sound...words one can sing/ hum/ tap the old finger on the stearing wheel to and when someone drive past you ,they take a second look back over at you, to make sure what they are seeing is for real.
Hi all, Well I love most music, when I'm driving, I like boppy music to keep me alert, and soft music when I pull up. One of my favourite's whilst driving is Jambalaya by Gerry and the Pacemakers. Cheers Charming
if I am in the city/crazy-traffic-type highway driving, I always prefer 'soft'; ie folk/classical/acoustic blues etc.
if I am in the middle of nowhere, I choose the rhythm/beat in accordance with my state of mind......I reckon its obvious when you are driving 'out in the playground' whether its time to get motivated or relax....so I choose accordingly; anything from hard rock to ambient.
Sometimes my fave song is the sound of the wind as I drive.
Hmmmmm...I guess I dont have one favouite driving song (if I picked one, I'd no doubt remember another to beat it later on).... but PLENTY of music choices 'on hand' always is favoured when I am driving.

When the kids were young, we had a tape called Silly Songs. See if I can remember what was on it...the rubber ducky song, Papa oom mow mow, Purple people eater, and many more that I've forgotten. But their favourite was Sitting in the car kissing and huggin' with Fred...because my Dad was Fred, and it got them giggling every time.
For me these days, I like a variety of genres, but not so much country or classical. My favourites would be from the 50's, 60's and some 70's.
And I always sing along! It may not sound good, but I enjoy it.

I've got that one Beth. 2 CD pack - 50 silly songs. Yackety yack, Monster Mash etc.

Oh yes, I forgot what else was on it. I'd love a copy some time Marj. I'd give one each to my kids as that old cassette is long dead. They'd get a giggle out of that.
I like your style Oxley, that's a good one. But my all time favourite driving song at about 3am and motorvating down a road like the great ocean road or any other great piece of road is Deep Purple's Highway Star. Other favourites The Doors - L.A. Woman, AC/DC - Thunderstruck, Angels - Take a long line, Black Sabbath - Paranoid....... etc.. etc...
I like any music especially from the 60's & 70's but for some reason, when I get on the open road, I have a soft spot for a bit of John (Cougar) Mellencamp. Songs like 'Small Town', 'Jack & Diane' & 'Real Life, to me, seem to suit the open road,

Yep i still sing it today, my wife looks at me and just rolls those big brown eyes at me ,and that makes me sing even louder.

As I read this I thought, jeez, that's my era. Then I looked at your profile and found you're a 54 model too. Not on my favourites list, but they are my era.

Yep, same model and I lived in Ipswich back when I was in high school. There seemed to be lots of great music on the radio back in those days on the old 4IP, or maybe it was the memories of the times that are brought to mind when you hear them that make them special.

Well fancy that! 4IP was THE station to listen to at the time.
Re: memories of the times connected with music...I used to go roller skating a lot in my late teens, and even now a song will bring back memories of those fun times. American Pie, Billy don't be a hero, spring to mind.
