The lady parked up next to us works in child care, she was saying she have to have a police check and a working with children check in each state/ she wants to work in.I do not think it is each town , just from state to state. She also said it can be a pain in the butt as she has had to wait up to six weeks in some places to have the check returned to her. Also has to have all her documentation like driving licenses/rego changed into the state she is getting the checks done from, due to have to have proof of residence and identity.Do not know if this is any help to your needs. She said she is going to just go and night fill at s/ markets after she finishes staying here ,due to the hassle and cost involved getting these checks all the time.
I would say that would be the case. I know that anyone who works within schools, kindergartens, childcare etc must have police checks. If you were setting up as a childcarer you would no doubt need the checks.
thanks for that - I have been involved with youth groups as a volunteer for 30 years and have just found out in NSW the system is changing. My existing check just rolls over and since completing the form years back, the check has been current ever since the check was introduced, without any intervention on my part or new forms being completed. The way I read it, effective from mid June, everyone will be required by law to reapply. The check is free for volunteers but not for paid workers (application fee is $80), so, would I be correct in thinking if you get some sort of "compensation or benefit of any kind other than cash" for any baby-sitting (free meals, accommodation etc) or childcare etc. whilst travelling throughout the country, you are classed as a paid worker????? If this is the case then the check will cost $80.
If you are interested or know any GNs in this type of work, they may wish to check out the following website and also check if their home state has also changed the system .... http://kids.nsw.gov.au/kids/working/newcheck (applicable NSW only) If you read the section on Exemptions, it may be the one check covers Australia wide???
Can anyone tell me what the system is in other states and does it follow NSW? If I travel outside of NSW it could mean additional checks - $80 per state x number of states - wouldn't you think the logical system would be to have the one system administered by the Commonwealth? Guess that's the logical female in me coming to the fore!
Cheers
