Welcome to the forum from us too Paj74. I would say a porta potti is equivalent to a cassette toilet. The porta potti is portable, the cassette toilet is built in to the van. Dump points are marked in the various Caravan and Camping books you can buy. Sometimes you will see a sign on a town's namepost.

First time poster on the forum, although have been stalking the site for quite some time and have learnt a lot,and still more to learn yet.Seems like I already know a lot of forum members already, without having met.
I have met one GN, my wife and myself live only 30 minutes drive from Greens Lake but have never been there,so last November decided to take a drive and see what we have been missing out on all these years and yes can see why a lot of GNs love it.there was only one forum member there at the time it was Ziggy, had a nice chat to him.
We are what you would call wanabe nomads, our old lab dog and our cat, hold us back from traveling away to far,if you''s can undersand that. Our biggest trip away we towed our van across to the Flinders Rangers, and up to Lake Eyre, wanted to see it when it was full of water, brother and sister inlaw came and stayed and took care of things.
I would like to set up the van for free camping, solar panel batterys and such,as we like the idea of free camping.Just a couple of questions,is a porta potti classed as a cassette toilet, and the other is how do you find out where dump points are located I wouldn't know what one looked like, and in my travels have never seen a sign saying Dump point.
Sorry about ranting on,must be excited about being a member of grey nomads, hoping to meet other gn's out there if not on the road will catch up when you's gather at Greens
Welcome to the Forum Paj74! If you are going to do a lot of traveling, a book such as Camps Australia is invaluable. Also, in setting up for free camping, be sure to do your homework as mistakes can be expensive. An invaluable source of information is this Forum!
Welcome Paj, you are lucky living so close to a GN meet up hot spot, I am sure they would welcome a visit from you at any time, keep an eye out on the Get Together and other sections of the forum for when some of them are going to be there.

And a welcome from me too Paj. The forum is addictive so be careful. I've learned a lot since being here. I used to think a dumping point was where you left the missus when you went to the pub.
I'd agree that Porta-Potties would be considered as a cassette toilet and the symbol above is reconized in most countries.....You will also read on most Camp Grounds profiles if they have a dump point....
We have travelled with both our Pets for over 10 yrs now and they are not really a problem....especially if you intend freedom camping where you can...(our only worry is that our small dog will become lunch for a big snake in this country if she wandered off....
We have Bailie (the Dawg) on a lead and Snoops (our cat)...we use a ''Rabbit'' harness when she ventures out side.......They both love travelling with us (Bailies normally 1st aboard...lol
