Large Windscreen Shades for bigger vehicles

I had been looking for bigger windscreen shades both for my Outlander and Ford Transit.

The ones I had were not tall enough at the top to be held in place by the sun visor and kept falling down.

Yesterday I came across these in a Repco store in Morley WA, although the size is 145cm wide and 97cm high they come with a bottom extension piece which is adjustable and fits onto pre sewn velcro strips, so you can adjust it to the height of your windscreen.

They are the reflective accordian type shades and are called "Two Piece Front Accordian Tall Shades".

Repco give RAC discount so I was able to get them for $10 each....They are distributed by WHO-RAE AUSTRALIA but I was unable to find a pic of them on their website.

Good to know. We just made ourselves a custom shade by cutting up a piece of roofing insulation we got at a garage sale!! It cost $5 and there was enough to do a few car windows for the family too. If they don't stand up over time, will investigate Repco.

Looks pretty good to me, I have also seen home made ones home sewn on the edges shaped for different windows with velcro attached to the shades and window surrounds for putting up and down when required.

Yours are just as good as any, as they say if the cap fits, lol ! smile

We purchased some from a place in SE Qld - made to fit the motorhome. The ones for the front window have a strip of solid aluminium attached to the middle, top to bottom, to give some stability to them, they are held up by the sun visors - and work well. Could be easily done to the ones you guys have, I am sure. The side ones are shaped to fit, and are attached with velcro. We purchased them from Top Gear 2 Go.

Once  have mine the correct height, I am going to use an office stapler to staple them on the sides to that height to make it easier to install them.......

Will give that soldid aluminium some thought also.....biggrin

 I've always wondered why the makers of these things don't do that Susan and Colin, sometimes they have a strap on one side and that's what I use it for (the elastic one meant to use when it is folded up). confuse

I am using a peice of H/D shade cloth, cut to the size & shape of the windscreen, with the ends left a bit longer,

Just lay it accross the windscreen on the outside, fold the long ends into the door opening & close the door.

Think back to the very early shades, a sheet of vinyl with the ends filledwith a weight, fitted outside & closed the doors on the tails.

Can be made to any shape & size, cheap as chips & dont have to remove all those items sitting on the dash.

I hadn't thought of HD shade cloth or seen anyone else using it, what a briliant idea!

I have tried the commercial sun screens you put on the outside instead of inside, Supercheap sell them, but found they are difficult to put on for one person in windy conditions, obviously not doing it right (securing one side in the door first) and would be a bit worried someone could nick them being on the outside or damaging them in the process.

The brand I got (took them back for a refund) some of  the sewn edging came away when I took it out of the packet and that was before I tried fitting it.   Shade cloth would be a much better option.

Shade cloth is a great idea for shade - but in a motorhome, you also have the privacy issue at night, which is why the silver ones are a good idea. You can see through the shadecloth when you have the lights on. Have seen JC's, and it does a good job.
