as of today according to the bureau of statistics, quite a shock for me as when I was a kid growing up in the sixties the pop. was about 11,000,000 and you just don't realise how it got to this whilst we were just living our lives, now my question is A.......... has this been a good thing and why, B.........has this been a bad thing and why, C........ where will it end............should we put a cap on our pop. or is that possible.

I think we need to keep a bit of a check on population growth. All the illegal immigrants coming in think well Australia is a big country with lots of room but they don't take into account that most of our country is arid & will not support ife as we know it.

The OP and the second post are asking quite reasonably, for a rational approach considering sustainability and the capacity of our infrastructure (and the taxes to pay for it).

The Economic Committee of the OK House of Lords was not so enthusiastic in its report on the alleged 'benefits' of immigration and they don't have it of the large scale that Australia does. Presently immigration to Australia is running at record numbers not seen since 1945.

Immigration and the diversity so favoured by political 'Progressives' have never been put to a popular vote in Australia.

The Select Committees overall conclusion was that:
We have found no evidence for the argument, made by the Government, business
and many others, that net immigration immigration minus emigration
generates significant economic benefits for the existing UK population.

Apparently immigration doesn't help support with increases in age pensioners either because the average age of migrants have always mirrored the average age of the population.

Might as well get rid of the rhetoric and rely on facts.

Hi all,
I have decided to close this thread as we have a policy not to allow political discussions on the forum. Experience has taught us that these kinds of topics can turn sour and lead to bad feelings and we’d like to keep our forum as a positive and welcoming place to be  Thanks for your understanding.
