RIP OFF!

Some of the c/ van parks they tell me along the coast over xmas/ new year period were up around the $70/ 80 per night mark..guess that's why we do not see the prices advertised much any more in the caravan park books, they know it would frighten a tigar away let alone a normal person.....I ask myself how do they survive. ?? People on a budget and even people with kids could not stay for long periods at this price. We all think the price we have to pay here is a rip off ,but i am beginning to think we just might not be doing too bad. But then again if they hear about the prices along the coast further south maybe our luck will run out here .

Wow what a ripoff price, whether $77 or $66. Would you believe I recently spent time in a motel in USA - $29/night - 2 queen sized beds & unlimited internet time on a desk top computer in the motel room, & a continental brekky in the morning plus the daily paper to read.

Yep, and the Spanish/Mexcian maid was probably earning $7 per hour?

A little different here, where the lowly maid earns $25 per hour, plus all the perks.

We made our bed, now we lay in it.

Somebody must be able to afford it or their park would be empty. The good thing is we are all free to choose. I wont be going there.

When we have to go to Adelaide for appointments we usually stay overnight, as some of the appointments are at 9am and it's a 3hr drive for us. The cabins we stay at for us and one 16yr old is $160 a night. We have to save up for these, and we don't get help from the government as we have a house, so no rent assistance.

I have no idea what the powered site fees are though, now that we have the van.

Thats ok, they wanted $120.00 a night 2 years ago mid Dec. $60.00 same time previous year. Powered site.

Free Spirit H/ parks Qld do the pricing. Do what I did 2 years ago, ring or email to complain. All NRMA parks refer.

They mentioned at the time they were reviewing all prices. Should have been around $55.00 peak after review.

Year right.furious

Yeh ! Jim a bloody ripp-off, But in that area  that type of park, does not cater for the normal touring nomad traveller, They would never get that out of me, there is always another town not far away, if not , Well that's the advantage of have a fully self-contained travelling rig, wher you can just pull up anywhere,  smile

Gerty made a good point... somebody's paying those prices otherwise the CPs would be empty. So the demand is there. It just surprises me that people with that kinda dough are "roughing" it around Oz in caravans.

I think that park might be the one owned by NRMA! Some of their other caravan sites were up to $85/night. But the prices drop from next Sunday 28th to $36 - $30/night. Agree with Gerty - some people must be paying for it - and I'll add it is a B..4 park and prices can include Foxtel and internet.

I don't know if we made our own bed ??? Maybe the different goverments made them for us, and we all fought to get wage rises to meet that cost of living,????

However with the large number of Illegal Immigrants arriving here lately, Maybe they will also work for $7 an hour, like the Spanish and Mexicans, then we can have cheap site fees again ???

Before I retired we were asphalting a tennis court at the new BIG4 out the queens cliff road from Geelong ,I asked the owner how Mutch for a powered sight ,he said $74.00 a night off season ,I said how do you justify that he said look around ,he said there is two jumping castles an indoor swimming pool ,he said we cater for families NOT GRAY HAIRDED NOMADS to sit and have a cupper tea with ,I thought to myself you barxxxd,he will never ever se me in there, and I have been told at peak time the price goes up to $110.00 for a powered sight, the silly part about these prices people still pay that price,if I drove into a park and they told me a price like that I would turn around and drive out after a few words,I would rather park in a tip, well not really.

So Woosy - people were living in containers in the caravan park you went to in the Glasshouse Mountains? And why would you pay for four if there were only two of you - didn't you say something? Sorry, did I miss something, I can't seem to understand what you mean?

Obviously the wrong park, there's a great little park just out of the village with bushland backing, power, water & amenaties for $25 per/night. We have used it several times.

jimbo I don't think 'naming and shaming' such parks will make much difference to the price. They will keep charging it because they have to pay for all the extras they have done.

Just enjoy freecamping or staying at the smaller ones and tell others about them.

smile Could'nt Agree more with that statement ??? -- Those types of parks are not canvassing us for our business, they cater for a different type of holiday maker,  They could not care less, if we stayed there or not, Hence the pricing structure, They know they will only get the Occasional Nomad who would pay that price,

We keep fighting for our right to free camp .

A caravan park should have the right to charge whatever they like . If enough people are willing

to pay high prices , so be it .

On the rare occasions we do stay in a CP , we always phone them first to get their rates . Then make a decision .

the price was for 4 adults of cause I told him we where only 2 but it was take it or leave it

 I won't be back

The discussion here is about people getting ripped off by c/ parks operators, charging for four people ,when only two people were booking into stay.YES they have a right to charge what ever they want to,but they also have to be fair also. Just wondering how fair and honest that prctiice is. No different if two people went to the movies , but had to pay for four or six people. Where will it all end ...

I agree in part of what you are saying , A lot of these parks market them self as Holiday Resorts now, the good old day of just being all under the one umbrella has long gone. This new marketing ploy want's the cashed up baby boomers ,not grey nomads as some said sitting around drinking a cup of tea.But the sad part of all this is in the offf season they except us ,So it is a catch 22 , i say bugger off to those parks who cash in on this kind of business .They sure as hell dont get my money when the good times have finished until next holiday season. The marketing is drop the price in the slow seasons as we need some income coming in. A lot of the Hot spots now wont even look at taking a booking in the busy time unless it is at least a week... Makes one feel used and abused in a way but thats the way it is.

woosy, yes I would agree with your disgust in this case. We should only have to pay for 'two' if 'two' is what we are.

I  always think that if you are a solo traveller why should you pay for a couple.
