I have it stored elsewhere at the moment so will have to pick it up tomorrow from storage and if it won't clear then off to the RAC on Monday......mine is staying on constantly while driving, not intermittent.
Mine is a 2008 model with 75,000 kms on the clock...

Travelling from Beverley to York WA, I noticed my Engine (shape of an engine) Warning Light was on and staying on.
Stopped the vehicle (Turbo Diesel Ford Transit) and checked the basics, oil, water etc but all was ok and temp guage showing normal so decided to drive on to York.
Saw an RAC agent in York but his diagnostic gadget did not have a program for Ford Transits so other than a general check could not help me with the light, said to take it to a Ford dealer in Perth.
Drove home to Perth and have it booked in to an RAC Workshop on Monday. Other than the light staying on, all appears to be working and running ok. I had refuelled with diesel not long before I noticed the light (correct fuel) but don't know if that was connected in any way to the fault. I will have to wait until Monday when they can diagnose the cause of the light remaining on. Hopefully it will only be a minor problem with the electronics.
If you have not already checked it make sure your fuel cap is back on properly I heard somewhere maybe on here that this can triger the engine warning light on some cars.

Funny you should say that Landy, I didn't feel it had seated properly when I put it on after refuelling, although it seemed secure, will re-check it. Thanks.
Also thanks to Mel and Santa, mine didn't go into limp mode and seems to run ok as normal, other than the engine light staying on.
msg (Mel) when you had yours reset, did you have to have both your keys done as well please??????

Most recent model diesel's have a DPF (diesel particulate filter) which becomes carboned up. This results in my 'engine' light to come on. I was advised by Cummins to give the car a good 'workout' -- 'put your boot into it occasionally' and this heats it up and clears it out. Eventually it has to be replaced and is very expensive.
To reset the light I have to turn the ignition on (not start the car) and depress the accelerator 3 times.
Evening Duh, quite possibly the EGR (exhaust gas recycle valve) is not functioning correctly, seems to be pretty common with Transits.
Mine comes on and goes out intermittantly, had it checked by two Ford dealers, one in Dubbo the other in Pt Pirie, both said would do no harm to continue driving it, or they could replace the valve for around $800, I'm still driving it, done about 20,000km since the light first came on.

Mine stayed on from Port Augusta to Darwin and back to Moonta, parked it then started it again about a week later, no light
I'm, working on a way to get rid of the EGR, it's a pain in the rear end.

Me again. Had this problem. Ford never did find out what was wrong. (Went to six different dealerships) EGR is most common fix suggestion. Not saying that there wasn't a problem but the fault codes were indicating EGR even after they had replaced it. Cost me heaps and still kept happening. I would get about 300ks.
Took it to a dealership in Brisbane and there was a mechanic there who had worked in the KEA workshop. He remapped it. Haven't had a problem since. 10,000ks.
but I still think it had somthing to do with over revving. The reason I'm leaning towards over reving is it happened both times when I was coming into Goondiwindi at he roundabout. Caught me unawares and I down shifted too quickly both times.
If there is no noticable difference in performance,( Mine never went into limp mode) I suggest you ask the dealership to just reset the computer and when they suggest these fixes be very sure that that is what is causing it. Take note of how you are driving it too.
Its got nothing to do with keys. Just go to the dealership and tell them the engine management light is coming on and will they reset it.
They will probably want to put it through diagnostic machine and thats OK. about $45. and half an hour. Just ask them what the fault code is and what it indicates.
They probably will say the EGR and Turbo could be faulty. I wouldn't replace the EGR unless they can guarantee this is the problem. $600 and it did'nt fix mine.
Don't worry too much about it. Like Santa, I have driven it for about 500ks with the light on. The guy in yarrawonga gave up after the third time and told me to just drive it home and put in with my regular servicer to see if they could fix it. Which they couldn't.
I really don't know what caused it but it seems OK now since the remapping and I have been watching my driving style. The UK Ford transit site said there is a limiter on the revs to safeguard the engine. Don't know how true that is though.
Thanks Mel and all, I tried most of the tips today and still didn't work, off to the RAC workshop tomorrow to investigate, they have a free 30 minute diagnostic test so hopefully they may be able to tell me what the problem is before the sting......
I was going to check with the Ford Transit forum Mel, but at the time I tried the site was down for some reason and I didn't go back to it.
When NRMA did the diagnostic test in Goondawindi, it frightened them so much they just ordered a tow truck and I got towed to Maroochydore. LOL. Don't worry about it too much. Just get the computer reset.
