Who's heading to Far Nth Qld this winter?

My sister and bil have recently been to Roma and returned home to Tin Can Bay via Eidsvold and Wuruma Dam. They said there are heaps of caravans on the roads.

My favourite spot in FNQ is the Atherton Tablelands, and not just because of my friend living there. It's a beautiful area.

But if I go this year, it'll be by plane for a short visit. Lots of other places I haven't seen yet.

I was just out on a callout and noticed a few caravans (approx 30) heading north.biggrin

Was wondering how many of you are heading up to beautiful FNQ this winter and where are you going to stay?

Anyone staying at Kurrimine or Mission Beach?

        Cheers Sol

Intend to go north probably about July. A couple of favourite spots - Diggers Creek Car Pk El Arish (at turn off to Mission Bch.) and Walkamin. A few other stops on way up to see family.

Hi Cherylle - would that be Alva Beach?  Friend used to live there - nice place - they caught heaps of fish off the beach.

And we just missed you!!!!!!!!!  We are in the Showgrounds CP - visiting family.  Will see you somewhere along the way soon.  Have you seen the photos of John's (Yeoeleven) Coaster - rego on Wednesday - fingers crossed all is ok!!!!!

Baz, we are you leaving from and what route are you taking, are you going inland or the coast. We will be leaving Bathurst about 26th and just meandering North, no set route yet, maybe Coonabarabran for the first night and after that we will just wait & see. This is our maiden voyage, totally new to the caravan thing so a little apprehensive, that will probably take a day or two to wear off

Despite media reports re QLD floods, FNQ north of Rockhampton there has been no flooding and no damage . In fact due to a very hot summer , there has been very low rainfall..Someone was telling me the best wet ewason in 10 years.Karrimine Beach has actually had one of the driest wet seasonon record.

I believe that Cairns Council has just spent a lot of money on Palm Cove CP, maybe worthwhile checking it out

We are leaving this week 26/4 so will be in FNQ in early May, maybe catch up with you somewhere up there. First stop is now Premer at Lions Park, will  post a review after we have stayed there, reports so far are positive. After that depends what town is  ahead of us. very flexible and no rush.. we think it will take us about 2 weeks to get there. Might find some good fishing spots on the way which may delay us, if the fish are biting may take us longer.

Hi folks

.. Having spent the last (3) southern winters in far north Qld, I became quite aware of a poor attitude that the Cairns Council has towards establishing better standards for travelling GN's ..

In total contrast, I spent my time using Mareeba as a base .. and its only about 70 k's from Cairns.

Thats how I found it and why I went back each year ..

Jon

Hi Phil ..

I only ever stayed at the Rodeo Grounds while there .. but I do know that for some period (maybe a month or two) of each year that they are closed to the public as a camping area. Probably to give the caretaker (of long standing) time for a holiday ..

It's also known as a spot you can drop your van (for a minimal fee) if heading for a trip by 4x4 to the tip ..

Suggest you make a call for latest details .. (sorry, phone number is not handy) ..

Jon
