The nicknames thread produced some lovely references to towns people grew up in so

how about a glimpse into the part of the world you are from!

My town is affectionately referred to by our family as Moronsville, New Zealand...famous

for us leaving it for Oz many years ago....

I was born in Clermont, lived here for the last 37 years, although that's not my age, ,
and can't wait to retire away from it. We raised our kids in this lovely little small town, but they've moved away now, so I want to be closer to them, but not in their laps, so I can see my grand-daughter more often. She's only 9 months old.

I was raised in Lakemba when everyone spoke English. I don't remember it having a nickname back then. It'll be interesting to visit after all these years to see how much it's changed. I was there 30 years ago and knocked on the door of the old homestead. The old Bakelite phone was still there and I used it to phone my mother, who scolded me for annoying the new residents hehe. And my old tree was still in the backyard, the one I climbed every day and pretended was a sailing ship as I gazed out over the rooftops.

I agree Kauki, good thread to follow up with.

I was born in Brisbane, but raised in Slacks Creek, which is a suburb of Logan City Qld. Of course when I was a kid, there was no city, just bush. I think it may have been called 'the creek'. It was a great place to grow up.

I've moved a lot, but I'm now living only 9kms from where our house was on the old Pacific Highway. These days there are places like car yards, etc all along that route.

Born and raised in Mount Gambier, always has been known as "The Mount", moved back here after being away for 40 years, now after 3 years, I am ready to move on again. It is actually quite amazing at times to go back to places where I knew as a child and things really have not changed at all. It is good to know that the main street has not changed all that much and there are the kids of today doing "mainies" on a Saturday night just as we use to. That is driving up and down the main street to see who is around and what everyone else is up to.

That's one of the things I like about small towns, although The Mount isn't that small. My area has turned into a major city over the years, and I've seen sooo much change. When I head out the Warrego Highway, I like to see that places like Roma and Mitchell haven't changed at all. Even driving through Chinchilla hasn't really changed, for all it's new industry.
