while packing up the van after the Easter break thought i got a whiff of gas checked the gas bottles on the van ok, checked the gas appliances were off in the van then opened the car door GAS had to unhitch the van to open back door on patrol pulled open the draw and found a gas cartridge for my little gas cooker with the plastic cap off and the cartridge pushed against the side of the draw letting all the gas out of the cartridge took ages to get rid of the gas smell am now in the process of making a box to carry the cartridges safely, thought i would pass this on as would imagine a lot of us have these little cookers and spare cartridges

Often wondered what would happen in that situation. Just don't light a ciggy.
I keep mine in the cardboard pack they come in until ready for use so they are fairly compact with no room to move around. That pack is then packed in such a way that it can't move either.

It was your lucky day, quite often when a car is filled with a gas leak & you open a door, the door light switch can create a small spark just enough to ignite the gas, the rest is history.

That's a good reminder - I've had the same happen with cans of Aerogard and flyspray which are also flammable. Thanks.

I watched an episode of Mythbusters when they tried to recreate a gas explosion from a Bourne spy movie. They found it a lot harder than it looked. Had to get a critical 19% mix of gas to air so it would be ignited by a naked flame.

Unfortunately, we all know that Murphy's law will help us out. Better to be safe than sorry

I keep my interior lights turned off at the switch (the door doesn't turn them on) so if door is opened during the day the lights aren't on needlessly. Thus avoiding any stray spark or gas explosion.....
