[just as an aside - why would you want to revert to 2WD?]

Unless you know more about vehicle design than Toyota, I would advise strongly against this.

Hi Guy's. I am a newbie to this posting thing, but here goes. Jenno I recently converted my 100 series wagon (petrol) to 2wd with a marks 4wd adaptors conversion kit. What it does is it replaces a ring gear in the transfer box and changes it to part time drive with the addition of free wheeling hubs on front axle. So to activate 4wd you then press the diff lock button in the cabin and provding you have locked the front hubs you will get 4wd. I went to Cape York last july and did the telegraph track and it performed very well with no problems. I have also gained around 140 to 170klms extra per tank full of fuel, and I can feel the extra power and pick up especially while towing my 16 foot van. There is also noticibly less backlash in drivetrain and steering is a lot lighter.

Hi all my thanks to all that replied to my question, particularly first timer Ashley. I thank you for your effort it is exactly what I wanted to know. I have always been very careful altering what a manufacturer installs in a vehicle but after making a lot of inquiries I am satisfied there is no problem with this conversion. I'll post further info when I give it a test.
