Towing mirrors

This afternoon I was driving along a back road, when a vehicle towing an old caravan pulled out in front of my car, causing me to brake sharply. I couldnt see the towing mirrors of the vehicle so hung back a bit further, still couldnt see their mirrors till we came to a bend in the road. Then we could see the towing vehicle, a sedan, only had the standard manufacture's issue mirrors, and no extended mirrors to allow the driver to see who was behind. They were heading toward the busy Princes Highway... scary. no

Theres too many accidents already, I'm sure nobody here needs reminding about towing mirrors but theres obviously some who still dont know the law in this regard. Take care folks.

So true, & many are relying on the use of a rearvision camera which is great to see directly behind you but usless when some pulls out to overtake them , also the same as to seeing traffic in adjacent lanes. They are an accident just waiting to happen.

I haven't as yet seen a towing vehicle without extension mirrors. But its scary to know that there are some people out there that do this. We have had numerous extension mirrors, with every caravan we have ever towed, we always leave them with the van when we sell it.

Finally we have a set that straps under the door to the base of the window. When not using them you just take off the mirror but leave the rest on the car. These are the best we have ever used. I honestly cannot understand why anyone would tow a caravan without being able to see down the side of your van...to me that suicide.

A fool and his money, or van, are soon parted.

The problem is that they might take somebody else with them Ozjohn. Had we been towing a caravan at 90kph when that idiot pulled out in front of us we might have been in trouble.

Recently returned from a trip, that we didn't nearly make because of a Van overtaking us without mirrors. He only had enough power to get passed us,but nearly took us out coming back into our lane.I'm sure there was only a coat of paint in it,after I braked.I flashed my high beam at him but I noticed he couldn't see past his van.I was hoping he would pull up somewhere so I could chat :) with him but he turned off a few kl's up the road. This practice is crazy and is an accident looking for a place to happen.

I've had trucks do that to me several times.
