insurance from one state to another

My insurance on c/ van is coming up for renewal, so rang insurance office to let them know that i was based in QLD for no fixed amount of time,so needed the insurance transfered over the sons address in QLD from address in WA (daughters) was told by the lady i was speaking to ...Well that will be $90 extra on top of what your accounts states. When i asked the reason why she said QLD is a flood area..i was left gobsmacked as i have not long come from a cyclone area in Karartha in WA.Rang around other insurance companies and same answer. So it goes to show insurance companies cover them self well.

We have our insurance based in SA. Unless we intend staying for an extended period of time in any one state, I won't be notifying the insurance. They know that when you have a caravan or motor home you are going to be traveling, and possibly staying in areas for longer than a few days, so I know the insurance I am paying will cover where ever we go, whether it's flooding prone areas, cyclone areas, or bush fire ones. There is always a high risk of anything happening, anywhere.

For owning a house in those areas, or living permanently in your van in those areas, I can see the sense in the insurance raising the policy amounts. I hate it, but I understand it.

Insurance companies don't miss ya but maybe they would if we got together and refused to take their cover. It won't happen, they rely on our fear of something going wrong but even when it does go wrong they have more points than a porcupine to get out of paying up. Haven't you noticed that if there's an earth quake in the back blocks of Iceland then the cost of insurance goes up here.. Not long back a mate want to cover his van in WA and told them he was traveling to the east coast to work and wouldn't be back before it was up for renewal and could he use my east coast address for the renewal notice, told him they don't insure vans out of state.

Hello Wombat 280,thats my point exactley, like is one area (cyclone) or ( flood) any different in danger that say going to Vic or Tassie where they have had horrific bush fires.Would be interesting to see if this rule applyies in those states. I know of a lot of cheap insurances in small print do say not covered in other states other than the state the van/car is insured from. Also know of some insurance covers in small print again not covered if taken onto dirt roads. And these insurance covers have been for offf road rigs.
